I love the Snow Joe brand and have bought one of their cordless snow shovels and their car snow broom. I have bought a few different ice choppers over the years, so I have some comparisons. The thing that drew me to this item was the spring loaded handle to absorb some of the shock when hitting solid ice. What I have found is that works against me at times though because hitting down hard on the ice absorbs some of the force more than I would like. The other thing is the blade itself is more of a pressed metal edge like a shoved, versus my other chopper where it actually has a metal edge blade that is sharper. The main thing that jumped out at me right away was the overall length of this, because my current chopper has a handle that is about chest high for me and this one seems to be about a foot less. I just feel like I have less leverage with the height of this one and the shock absorber. I would say this works good on basic snow cutting or some light ice removal, but if you really need to chop hard and break up hard ice, its not the best I have used for that. One other note is that the handle is not aligned with the blade, which is probably intentional but it feels odd, because I am used to the blade direction matching the handle. I bought this from the amazon outlet as a like new item, because it was a great price and I had been wanting to try one for a year or two.

Got this for the harsh winters where I live and it does a fantastic job of breaking up big ice chunks on our driveway or sidewalk. Its sturdy and feels well built, definitely a good investment.

Great for cleaning my chicken coop!

I was looking for a tool that would make scraping the floor of my chicken coop an easier chore. I was using my garden hoe and my back would ache for a couple of days after. Then I found this and what a time and back saver! This tool scrapes the floor without tearing it up and with little effort. I can even get under the nesting boxes and the roosting bars as the length of the pole is long enough without being cumbersome! It works great on snow too, but that was not the main purpose of my purchase. I highly recommend!

Living in Minnesota, we frequently have ice that needs to be broken up. I bought this as an addition to my already existing 7” ice chopper from Menards. This pales in comparison to the ice breaking ability of my other tool. Absolutely fine for small areas, sidewalks, downspout areas but not great for thicker builds ups (end of driveway, sidewalk to street, alley buildup, etc). The spring loaded feature makes the ice breaking ability weaker and unable to chop through ice well. I’ll keep as a lighter weigh option, but very middle of the road compared to my other options.

I found myself chopping sidewalk ice with a hoe this winter. Ordered this, and it works much better. I'd consider it "medium" duty in terms of blade thickness and handle strength. I expect it to last for years if I avoid too much prying with it.
