This heat cable has been a game-changer for keeping our roof clear of ice dams. I was tired of dealing with the messy, potentially damaging ice build-up every winter, and this cable has delivered.

It’s been running smoothly for a few years now, standing up well to all sorts of weather. No more worrying about ice dams or climbing up to clear out gutters—it’s done the job without any fuss. Installation was straightforward, and once it was up, it just worked.

If you're fed up with winter ice issues and want something reliable, this heat cable is a solid choice. It’s saved us a lot of headaches and keeps our roof in great shape. Highly recommend it for anyone facing the same icy battles!

    4.0 out of 5 stars Complicated. . . . ahem

HEATIT - HIRD - 30-ft. received it 3 days early. This is NOT some "Saturday-afternoon" installation project. Mine was purchased for gutter-downspout, primarily DOWNSPOUT issues, but instructions are very specific about plug-in/GFCI(?) installation requirements and "extension-cord" anomalies. . . . I un-curled the cable in the "cold" garage, plugged it in, and it began to heat-up, indicating proper operation. Not suitable for installation during "cold-iced-snowed-up-already-iced-dammed-situations" . . Best installed during warm weather, requiring careful planning/measuring, running of cable, clipping, and clamping to avoid over-lapping and potential "issues." Clips & clamps all seem to be there/included, but I think I'll wait for more favorable weather (Wyoming, ya know?) for installation (ladders, clamps, running cable, overlaps, plug-in, drainage,) to install. Product appears to be of high quality, but installation requires MUCH careful planning. Prior access to instructions (PDF, owners manual, etc.) would be VERY helpful. Updates as I can. . . . $32.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice

I have installed heater cables on my house for the last 12 years. Cheap insurance. I have always purchased cables from the big box stores.
I decided to try these ones as they offered more lengths and the price was better. As soon as I unrolled them I noticed they were a lot thicker than my old ones. I like the lighted cable end too. Installation was a breeze as I only run them in the gutters. The cable diameter definitely helps melting snow and they won’t deteriorate as fast in the sun. Package showed up in great condition and all the clips were in the bag. These are definitely quality heater cables.

5.0 out of 5 stars Economical solution to ice dam prevention
Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2024
The product was delivered on time. I tested it before installing it and the wire felt warm after a few minutes, so it worked as intended. I used this product to replace older roof heater wires that had failed. It was easy to install and the kit came with plenty of attachment clips and wires. The wires seem to be working. Too early to tell how long they will last.

5.0 out of 5 stars the cable melted our ice dams that were caused by gutter guards.
Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2024
This is an excellent product. The clips that were included were useless. The clips were designed to go into a thin asphalt roof shingle. We have hail proof shingles that were twice as thick as thin asphalt shingles. I then had to rig up clips that went on top of my gutter guards.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well enough, downspout not so much
Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2024
I have a north oriented section of roof that has always had ice buildup issues. Got the Heatit. It works well enough for that area, but the end was not flexible so I couldn’t feed it down the downspout. I attached it to the outside of the downspout next to the house but that didn’t work. I moved the ice issue from one place to another. Oh well, no ice over the patio door so some improvement anyway.

4.0 out of 5 stars Higher wattage for colder climates
Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2024
These were purchased for a roof in ND and if you live in cold climates such as this, I would suggest a higher wattage. They do work, but it hasn't been that cold and we have noticed we should have purchased a higher wattage. These were also installed on a steel roof which was not the easiest thing to do as they don't like to stay attached. They were much cheaper than the products sold at the box stores.
