5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable and Quiet

I purchased this inverter almost two years ago for installation into my RV. Early on I stress tested it by running two electric space heaters at the same time for the nearly three hours it took to drain the lithium battery bank. Roughly 170 amps continuous, or very close to the 2000 watt rating. The inverter fans cycled on and off but the inverter kept going. In the roughly two years since purchase there's never been a problem with the inverter.

It powers up the trailer microwave no problem. Microwaves can be a problem, they are very inefficient. The one in the trailer is rated at 700 watts but according to the exterior label consumes 1100 watts to make the 700 watts inside. Microwaves also have a huge surge every time the magnetron starts, so it can be hit or miss depending on the specific microwave and inverter combination.

The remote on/switch is handy. When on the inverter does use a noticeable amount of power if left on overnight, but not enough to be a bother to me.

Normally the inverter is silent. The fans only become noticeable, and that's barely noticeable, under a constant heavy load, which in my use is pretty rare.

Update: I originally left a 1 star, not for the device, but more for the resale, I thought this second one was faulty, turns out one of my bus bars was faulty, this was TOTALLY MY FAULT (maybe the bus bar as well). Renogy got back with me even though this was a resale and informed me it’s not under warranty but still offered tips on what to do. I’m happy that this worked out because I really like this Renogy company and eco system. Looking forward to upgrades, future builds and all. I left the original review for context below

I would say this is more of an Amazon resale review as this is the second unit I bought from resale that is DOA. This first one never worked, figured was just a bad unit, 2nd one sparked so hard it left a groove in my bat terminal and now won’t accept a charge from my charge controller. I don’t know what the process is on testing these with Amazon resale but they definitely were bad. I don’t know how Renogy would let you all re-sell bad units, looks bad on them

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice upgrade

I use solar panels on a system I built. I had a 1000 watt modified sine wave on it. It was extremely limited on it capability. I installed this one in its place. It seems like the devices run better on the inverter than the grid. I have a couple of ceiling fans on my deck and 6 in my house. The old inverter would run the deck fans, but they were loud because of the modified sine wave. The ones in the house are on the grid. They have a very faint hum when they are running. I put this inverter in and kicked the deck fans on. They make zero noise. The only thing I can hear is the wind coming off the blades. So then I went and bought a 6,000 btu window air conditioner. I plugged it into this inverter. Fired it up. Free AC! The inverter has no trouble pushing the air conditioner. It can handle up to a 14,000 btu. I went small because I need to run refrigerators and other essential equipment. I am prone to a lot of grid failures. I have had solar on backup for over a year. The grid has gone out at least 10 times in that year. My solar has not gone out yet. So I want to make it more primary. This inverter allows for that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Won't run my 1100 Watt microwave. 3000 watt version.

Does well with multiple loads and my MR Coffee coffee pot when I tried my 1100 watt microwave oven it beeped within 1 minute and kicked out. Otherwise it runs nicely

1.0 out of 5 stars Test it before you go through all the trouble to install it.

I was really excited to get this inverter and get it running in my camper. I especially liked the remote control because the inverter was to go inside a difficult to access location which was perfect for the inverter. The remote on/off switch would make it easy to manage the inverter once it was up and running. The pure sine wave feature is also nice.

Normally I would have tested the inverter prior to installing it, however it appeared to be well designed with robust features such as the threaded and locked lugs for hooking up the 12 volt cables. I also liked the extra 120v output connection for a permanent AC wire, which is what I was planning. I was a little bit put off by the 3 foot long 12v cables because I don't need that much length, but I figured that if the inverter performed as expected, I would eventually shorten the cables to improve on voltage drop.

After several hours of running AC wiring and setting up the space where the inverter would sit in the trailer, I hooked up the inverter to the battery and then switched it on. The fans started up, the green light was on, then a beep, then the red light came on and it shut down. I shut if off and tried a few more times with the same result. The Owners Manual troubleshooting stated that if this happened, the first thing is to make sure the incoming voltage was no higher than 16.5 volts and no lower than 10 volts. I measured the battery terminals and got 13.3 volts. Even with the three foot 4.0 gauge cables, 13.3 volts at the battery are nicely within the acceptable range. Next, troubleshooting said that inverter could be overheating. Since I just turned it on, and there was no load on it, that's not the problem. Check to see if the operating load is excessive on the output side. I had nothing hooked up to it, so that's not the problem. One last possibility: "The inverter is short circuited". Now that's intriguing. Troubleshooting specifies to disconnect the inverter and turn off the switch to reset. I did that several times and the same thing only happened; it would come on and then sound the alarm and the red light and then shut down. If only shutting off something and then restarting it would fix an internal short. I then removed the inverter from the trailer and tested it using a 12V battery on the bench, with no AC wiring connected to it. Same thing. Clearly this is a faulty unit. I'm shipping it back to Amazon. Lesson learned. Given that others have received bricked units from the get go, I should have benched tested this inverter before setting everything up and then finding out the inverter is non-functioning. In the long run however, I don't look at the time spent so far as lost because most of the work was in the AC wiring for the trailer, and that can be used no matter which inverter I finally install.

So far this unit has performed well. Able to run all the power tools i have tested it with including table saw and drain cleaning machine. According to my battery monitor it's stand by usage is the same as the little 350w cheap unit I also have. It is connected to a 200ah lifepo4 battery.
