4.0 out of 5 stars Included cables may not support the current load of two panels

I ordered the 2 x 100 watt package because the price was unbeatable. After I received the package, I noticed that the cables included are only 2.5mm2 gauge wires. I needed to order a "pig-tail" converter cable with SAE plug so that I could plug these into the side of my travel trailer. the pig-tail I ordered is 10 AWG wire. I was curious what the conversion from 2.5mm2 to AWG would be. Basically, 2.5mm2 gauge is equal to 14 AWG gauge. I'm not so sure that the 20 ft. of 2.5mm2 cable will support the current load from the panels at peak output. The sticker on the panel states Maximum Power Current for one panel is 5.55 amps. Two panels in parallel would be 11.1 amps calculated. At 80% proficiency, I might see 8 to 9 amps output. A 10 amp output (at 12 v) would be 120 watts. The attached chart shows that I would need heavier gauge cable to support that load.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressed

These panels were easy to install although we had to shave down the catch on one of the connectors to get it to release so we could put the panels away when leaving for extended periods. The panels charge in any light at all and I did not have to turn on my generator at all after installing these. I am using two gel batteries by the same maker to run lights, devices and a cpap machine which draws the most power of these items. The first time I ran the cpap it required hours of running the generator to charge the batteries. I couldn’t be more pleased!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great deal on solar kit, works as good as hoped for

When I opened the box when it arrived, one of the panels was shattered, but I contacted customer support and they shipped me a replacement panel quickly (excellent support). I got the replacement panel and checked out everything. I haven't fully installed, but my test runs have show it to be as efficient as I had hoped for. In moderate sun, I was getting up to 9.2A which is pretty close to the max I would expect at this voltage and load. This was charging a battery that was at about 85% with no load connected to the battery, so its possible the output could even be higher if the load requirement was higher. The wiring in the kit seems adequate for my installation. The controller gives me good information and seems to do exactly what I wanted. I'll know more when I'm finished with the installation and see how it looks in the long term, but so far so good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good value / tinkering kit

Worked for a year with no issues except sometimes I do have to reset my controller by unplugging the positive leads for the battery and panels and then plugging them back in. Although this is more to do with overuse on the side of the batteries and inverter which I purchased separately than a fault of the panels. I would purchase this kit again.

*Update: After about 3 years the Solar Controller has burned out / stopped working.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but needs help

Been running this unit for about 3 weeks now in an outdoor hydroponics system running 6 small water pumps. After 2 weeks the DC out for accessories on the PV charger stopped working. Originally I had the water pumps running off the DC accessories out (and before you say wired wrong, it wasn't the pumps are each on there own regulator with a DC step down to prevent damage to the pumps from over voltage) so i had to change the connection from there directly to the batteries (which is fine) just pointing out how cheap the charge controller is.
I added to lipo batteries for electrical storage which keeps more than enough juice to keep 6 12v DC 1amp 5w pumps running 24/7 batteries barely deplete over night when system isn't charging.
Overall the units pretty good however I would suggest getting a better charge controller as well as a tube of silicone sealer for the solar panels.
It's been raining an excessive amount lately around here in upstate NY and moisture has gotten between the glass and solar grid in the panels. So far doesn't appear to affect anything, but I'll be adding a some sealer around the outer edge on the top side of the panels myself to make sure they stay sealed. The undersides of the panels have a good seal on the frame. Just not the top side of the panel where the frame covers/sits over the glass.
Other than the couple small issues/problems the unit in it's entirety is easy to setup and use..
