I'm hooked on this brand of blankets now! This is the 4th one I've purchased and is perfect for turnout transitioning from winter to spring. My 3 others are the heavier weight 2 hooded and 1 not hooded and I love them all! My horses are pastured 24/7 and my senior needs the extra protection when it's cold. The heavy ones kept him nice and warm all winter and the lighter is great for a little extra protection overnight on the chilly spring evenings. In 2 years I've only had to replace 1 buckle and that's rare for my horse so id definitely say they're durable. They're all super light weight in comparison to others I've tried. They fit well and stay in place well. They're very waterproof!! Also, for the price I think they are well worth it! I've seen cheaper, but I've also bought more expensive ones that have not held up as well and get heavy when it rains.

TRUE WaterPROOF sheets! Fit great, can always count on Tough1 turnouts!! This 32 yr old gets a heavy thick pony coat in the winter that takes days to dry out! Thank goodness for Tough1turnoit sheets = no rain rot! TY!
Just wish the chest straps were clips for my arthritic hands. Elastic leg straps would be great so I buy those elsewhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars Downpour? No. Durable velcro? Eh.
Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2024
Okay, so there are a few things to discuss here. There ARE things that I love about this blanket. Its color, size, and its general use is really nice (better than some of the blankets I have gotten in the past). That's a plus!! Now for the downfalls....

I got this blanket for two big reasons—waterproof and durability. It has been raining a TON here in New England, and my horse often likes to walk around despite being poured on. This blanket was supposed to be lightweight (which it is), be able to withstand despite being rained on quite a bit (which it was not), and durable (the fabric is, but the velcro is funky).

VELCRO—this has VERY strong velcro. That SHOULD be a plus, but the downfall was in the fabric and way it was adhered/sewn to the fabric. This velcro is so strong that it if it is pried off, it will do damage to the blanket it is so desperately trying to hold onto. In other words, I went to take the blanket off the NEXT day after using it, and the velcro was staying put (in the front patch where you normally buckle), but it was detached from the blanket itself. Applause for the velcro strength, but this product needs to have stronger sewing tactics. Luckily the velcro isn't the only thing holding the chest flaps together, so you can easily rely on the buckles, but keep in mind that you will have to deal with a blanket that has a rip in it because that velcro doesn't want to come free.

WATERPROOF— I would say in light to medium rain, this is totally fine. If you are in a downpour and this blanket is getting consistent use, then you need to let it dry in between or use a waterproof spray before using it. My horse gets cover, but he likes to roam (as mentioned). With that being said, his blanket will be damp all the way through after a heavy downpour consistent throughout the day. My main reason for using this blanket was during the winter months when I knew he would need a blanket following damp weather with dropping temperatures. He is newer to the region and hadn't been able to get a proper coat in time for the winter, so keeping him dry when it is single digits is important.

Perfect for those nights that aren’t too cold but just aren’t warm enough for you to not blanket. It’s water resistant not waterproof. Water will seep through in a good rain but fine for a sprinkle. You can throw some rain proofing spray on & have a fairly cheap alternative. It’s medium weight, fits correctly & overall a pretty good looking blanket.

Really nice for turning my horse out to lunge in the wet weather. Where I board were not allowed to turn out in the covered arenas because of the expensive footing, so we have to turn out in the wet outdoor and when my horse rolls out there he gets so gross, so I got this so that when he does roll he won't get so yucky. Good fit and durable so far but I don't leave it on him all the time, just when I turn out in the outdoor arena. He hasn't rolled in it yet so I can't say how waterproof it is, but I'm sure itlll be fine since other folks at the barn use these for the same reason :) nice hunter green color, and light weight enough that you could wash it in the washer at home.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is NOT waterproof. It's not even water resistant.
Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2022
The only reason I ever use a plain sheet is if it's cold and raining. If it's cold and raining, the last thing you want is for your senior horse to be wet. After the first use, he was soaked to the skin. The company needs to stop advertising this as waterproof; I wouldn't even go so far to say it's water resistant. It might repel a light mist but not even a light rain lasting more than a couple minutes. My horse isn't a blanket destroyer, so not sure how it would hold up to one that's hard on blankets. Unless all you want is a windbreak on a dry day, spend your money on something else that actually keeps your horse dry.
