5.0 out of 5 stars Thick and solid

Sometimes these can be thin and crumbly. These were not. They were thick and solid. I was able to hang them with the included hanger with it breaking. Good purchase.

I have 12 budgies who all go absolutely nuts for these. My only issue is they tend to arrive broken no matter the packing but that could be anywhere from manufacturer to shipping carelessness so I can't detract from the rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great

I bought the Penn-Plax Bird-Life Natural E Cuttlebones for my fish tank, and I was happy to see that they started to dissolve quickly. Within a day, they had broken down and were helping to keep my snail's shell strong and healthy. The cuttlebones also helped keep the water in my tank at the right pH level, which is 7.6. I'm happy with how they worked and would recommend them to anyone looking for a simple way to add calcium to their aquarium.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good ingredients, but not actually cuttlebones. It may take your bird a while to like it.

Personally I don’t think these should be called cuttlebones, as I bought them by mistake. There should be something right in the description that says they’re a compound including less than half cuttlebone material.

That being said, I am here today to revise my review. I have raised it by one star, to a respectable 4 stars. The reason for the change is that once they got the hang of it, and figured out how to attack it, the birds did like these. It was not what they were used to. They barely touched it for the first two days. But then the third day, when I came home from work, I found that they had eaten so much of it! So I am still not sure of the other ingredients, and I still think the description itself should indicate that they are not "Natural cuttlebone," which they clearly are not, and which the description clearly says they are. I think this is just wrong of the seller to do this, and I don't know why it's allowed. Nevertheless, it is a treat that my birds have come to appreciate.

The original review:
They are very hard, not flaky or crumbly, and my nine budgies are still waiting for the real thing. They’ve barely touched it. It’s not a substitute for actual cuttlebones, in my opinion, but perhaps a supplement. I am still left in the situation of needing to buy some cuttlebones.

I do understand and somewhat appreciate to ecologically oriented statement from the seller regarding the over-consumption of cuttlefish... what else is new, when it comes to humans? I doubt that providing cuttlebones for our caged birds is the major driver of cuttlebone consumption on the planet, however; we just have to be sure that all the parts of animals that are consumed for one purpose get used as much as possible for other purposes as well.

In short, these “might” be liked by your birds as something different, with lots of good minerals etc. but it might be a bit like getting your kids to eat their vegetables. They still want – and perhaps need, for beak conditioning and what not – the cuttlebone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best cuttlefish ive ever purchased

These were big, thick, not flimsy like the ones I've purchased in the past. Love them! Solid and not flaky. I had to buy a cuttlefish holder as they were too big and thick and didn't have those little metal clamps to such to side of cage. But i think they're well with the money and will try to get these all the time. They also has added vitamins too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not ideal for turtles
Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2024
I got these for my aquatic turtles after reading positive reviews. The turtles do seem to like them (after being initially confused by them). But the tablets quickly disintegrated and left a powdery mess in the tanks, so I'll need to clean the tanks and equipment after one use. I'd recommend turtle owners provide these in a separate feeding dish, or use real cuttlebone, which isn't so messy. I prefer real cuttlebone because the turtles can nibble on them and play around with them for days/weeks, which can also reduce begging for food, though maybe there are advantages to the fortified tablets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for your shrimp tank! Don't get played by the Pet Stores! Buy this!

It's such a rip off when you go to the pet store and anything with the word aquarium is quadruple the price.

NOPE! Get this baby! For the money you can't beat it and it does the same exact thing as what is marketed toward pet shrimp! All you have to do is break this up into small pieces and put into your tank and WALA, it does the same exact thing that you would have paid $19.99 at the aquarium section! Lol, can't fool me!!! lol
