5.0 out of 5 stars Great for a small tank

I purchased this for my daughters 10 gallon and made the mistake of not measuring first. With the aquascaping we did in her tank we put the light from front to back and it actually looks amazing. The LED's are simple and bright. It's a great light for your aquarium.

This light is perfect for my tank! It's bright enough and it fits well. You cant beat the price! I would recommend this light!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, but very bright!

This is a great LED light but it's extremely bright! My fish doesn't like how bright it is, so I just taped off most of the "excess" lights to make it comfortable for her tank! Works great!

4.0 out of 5 stars Unbeatable value - keeps frogbit and low-medium light plants happy!

I am new to the hobby (about 4 months) and wanted to experiment with growing plants. I've had the 12-16" lights on both of my 5 gallon betta tanks (16"L) for about 1.5 months. Compared to my tank kits lights, they've opened up a lot of planting possibilities for very little money. Keep in mind that photos show frogbit blocking some of the light.

I am new to the hobby and wanted to dip my toes into growing plants to see if I enjoyed it before investing significant time and money

PROS:
- Bright enough to meet the needs of low to low-moderate demand plants. It was actually bright enough to induce algae growth on my crypts and anubias, so I added frogbit to shade them.
- Easy set up, easy adjustment and easy to use.
- Price! For $13, I'll be satisfied for even a half year of use. Great choice if you want to experiment with growing hardy, low-medium demand plants or upgrading your tank kit light.
- Adding an on/off timer and keeping reasonable hours seems to keep the algae at bay - it's not strong enough to require a dimmer for that purpose.
- I can finally see my bumblebee betta! She used to blend in with the tannins.

CONS:
- Non-optimal sizing options for standard 5 gallon tanks (16"L). The only 16" option is the one geared more towards 12" tanks, so it lights a comparatively smaller area. You'll have a limited space for more moderate-demand plants to thrive.
- Very good at lighting up area directly beneath, but light drops off noticeably outside that range.
- 100% DO NOT use this light without a tank lid! The legs come out easily.
- No timer, dimming, color options and all the other bells and whistles...but I don't expect that for $13.

Plants in my tanks that have already demonstrated success (i.e. producing new leaves) with these lights:

- Anubias nana
- Anubias congensis
- Nymphoides aquatica ("banana lily")
- Taxiphyllum barbieri ("Java moss")

Plants I have just started experimenting with under these lights:

- Bacopa caroliniana
- Cryptocoryne undulata red
- Hemianthus glomeratus ("pearlweed")
- Litorella uniflora
- Ludwigia palustris

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing aquarium light
Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2024
45 gallon tall hexagon. Bottom was always pretty dark and fish were hidden in the shadows. Now everything is so crisp and clear. All the colors are so vibrant and the fish are so much more visible-absolutely love this light!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and effective

It's an inexpensive light, but the plants seem to like it. I cant speak to the longevity of the device, but the build seems to be quality and it doesn't run too hot.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok. Switch stopped working

I really like this light overall, but I've had it for probably nine months now, and the switch got stuck and won't flip anymore. I will order a new one though, they're cheap enough.
