Shelled sunflower seeds are bird healthy food, which are easily used in a variety of feeders. This contained chips and whole pieces.

I purchased these to avoid the massive mess that was happening below my bird feeder from sunflower seed shells. The birds love these hearts & bits but it’s much more costly to fill my feeder. It’s a trade off. The birds are happy & so am I for not having to clean up the shell mess.
I close off my feeder nightly to prevent vermin from gorging on the free expensive meal

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Mix for the tiny birds to mouse, nut hatch wrens

I bought the see dad to my other order that ended up being mostly sunflower seeds because the little ones can’t crack the sunflower as easy as the big birds so I got some for their little mouths but then that hatches and runs and tip mouse. The little chips are perfect for their little beaks, plus it has more variety to my woodpecker blend. You cannot go wrong with us at all. Pleasant leaves no mess because they are shelled. Whatever drops they’ll eat it off the ground too very nicely packaged. You can’t go wrong with sunflower seeds that are shelled and broken up in a little bitty pieces for the little bitty birds

I was a little worried about this as I’m moving from a nut-based diet to a seed-based diet for the local bird population to accommodate a friend’s allergy. I have a window feeder in a Brooklyn apartment in the kitchen where I work all day. I knew the morning doves would love the change. The nuts are a little big for them so they always look like they’re about to choke on one. This is far more comfortable for them, and therefore far more popular. I’ve gotten an impressive increase in the dove population since I switched. But they just hang around in the feeder not minding the local humans. They’re New York birds. I wasn’t sure the smaller, more skittish birds like the sparrows, titmice, cardinals, and blue jays (granted, blue jays aren’t smaller, but they fit in the skittish population for this) would take to it. They liked the larger peanuts as a quick grab and go treat. Turns out they will grab and go just as readily with a sunflower heart, but they like these seeds so much the titmice and the sparrows will sometimes just hang out and eat right in the feeder. The bluejays are still on the fence about that. The occasional crow will still pop by for a quick treat as well. All in all, the birds seem perfectly happy with these. I’ve even gotten the attention of the occasional woodpecker, who seems to find them tasty.

I love that these are shell free and do not make a mess. The less clean up work, the better. I don’t need to remove uneaten seeds at the end of the day, because there are none. I put in a plastic cup full first thing in the morning and the last few are picked clean just before sunset. I’ll likely need to put out more in the summer, as the birds will eat until the sun goes down.

About the only thing I would like to see different is that the bag doesn’t reseal. Everything else is perfect. Overall, I’d say these make the birds happy, which makes me happy.

Birds and squirrels love it. I used to buy from Trader Joe's but now this price is actually cheaper, by half pound... and it's actually better because it's not whole seed but chopped so the little finches can eat it easier...as long as they can keep it at this lower price, $16.41 for 5.5 pound bag... Ill keep buying from this vendor... I just feed the wild birds. Great buy!!! And it's always fresh not rancid at all... Highly recommend!
