5.0 out of 5 stars Great food!

I purchased this for my 3 month old lovebird at the time because this food was highly recommended. He gained 5 grams in 2 months, which is great because he's still a growing baby bird. Average adult weight for lovebirds is 40 to 60 grams and Mango is at 44 grams. He also gets his veggie chop in the mornings and millet seeds as treats for training, so the pellets isn't the only thing he eats all day every day. So ditch the seed mix and transition to pellet food, it will pay off in the long run!

I used to feed my conure standard seeds, but since he had a history of plucking that I was well aware of before getting him, I decided to do some research into possible changes that would help alleviate his plucking. I first tried to convert him to a fresh food diet (meals like quinoa and vegetables/fruits, etc.) but he just wouldn't have it. He was stubborn about his seeds and there seemed nothing I could do to change that fact. Well, after some more research, I found that almost the entire internet undisputably raved over Harrison's bird food as the absolute best alternative to pretty much any bird food store bought. I was skeptical, to say the least, but decided to give it a go, since it's a bit cheaper on Amazon than straight from their website, plus I get Two Day Shipping.

I bought a one pound bag of high potency fine, since the company recommends starting with that when switching diets. I wasn't really expecting him to eat it readily, so I took the drastic measure of completely taking away his seed and giving him access to only this. I was prepared to keep an extremely close eye on him for several weeks to make sure he wasn't starving himself, and to reintroduce the seeds if need be, but to my complete surprise, almost the moment I put the food in his dish, he went straight for it and starting eating like it had been his lifelong food. I was shocked but overjoyed.

After only a few weeks on this new food his whole demeanor changed. He was lively and happy and much more active. I still give him his seeds as a treat every now and then, and I purchased a puzzle feeder for them, so he has to think and work for them.

Not only does this food provide the balanced nutrition a conure needs, but it also keeps them at a healthy and active weight since it doesn't contain the fats that seeds do. Another plus is that is doesn't make such a mess as the seeds did, and there's a lot less waste.

I've since switched him over to the Adult Lifetime Fine and his plucking has lessened dramatically (he still 'over helps' his winter molt, but never to the point of bare skin, just gray down on his chest and belly. After molting is done, he allows his feathers to grow in and doesn't touch them).

He will be on this food for the rest of his life, for sure. The plus side is he doesn't even seem to mind: he love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars If your bird is picky and won't eat pellets, BUY THIS FOOD.

I rarely write reviews. But this food has impressed me that much. I have a Peach Fronted Conure. He's picky, picky, picky. I got him from my daughter. She has tried every food, seeded and pelleted. She has never been able to get him to eat pellets. But I thought I'd try this. It's only available locally in the high protein, large chunk size, so I grabbed a sample at my local pet store and crushed it up with a hammer. He immediately sampled it. So I sent off for the 5 pound bag, hoping I was doing the right thing.

There was very little change-over time. I gave him a small bowl of seeds, and a full bowl of the Harrison's pellets. Within days, he was eating the pellets and leaving the seeds. I am so impressed. His feathers have come in so healthy looking, he's gained some weight, but not fat. He was always a little scrawny looking, now he's full and healthy. Feathers aren't half grown in any more. His attitude has improved as well. No more biting and lunging (which is why my daughter gave him to me)

This food lasts forever, too. There is no waste seed hulls to cover and hide the unused seed. I have had the 5 pound bag for one month, and have used about 2-3 cups out of it. I have 2 cages and a perch, and each has a full bowl, and that's all I've used. If that were a bag of seed, it would be almost gone by now, due to waste. I hesitated buying it because of the price, but after the initial investment, I am saving money. I used to spend between $10-30 per month on seed. Now I can use seeds as a treat and for training.

Buy this food. If your bird is picky and won't eat pellets, BUY THIS FOOD. I know this sounds more like a commercial than a review, but that's how impressed I am.

5.0 out of 5 stars He likes it!

This was recommended by the vet as a diet change. The bird likes it VERY well, and has transitioned off of seed without any problems. Bathroom habits have improved, and he's a happy bird. He's less hyped up than on seed.
