About this item

PREMIUM QUALITY: Lixit water bottles have been a standard for over 35 years. It features a thick high quality water bottle that is BPA free.
THE PERFECT SIZE: The 8oz bottle is designed for Hamsters and Mice. The bottle is weather resistant and can be used in outdoor environments. Not all small animals need the same amount of water. For the 8oz we use a 3/8-inch tube that is large enough to accommodate the water needs of the pets noted above.
VACUUM SEAL: Lixit bottles work by forming a vacuum to hold the water inside. It is important to fill the bottle all the way to the top and ensure the cap is on tight to prevent leaking. Some dripping when the bottle is first turned over is normal.
QUALITY STAINLESS STEEL: Our tubes are made of the same 304 grade stainless steel in food preparation. We polish our tubes until they have the same satin finish that is found in quality silverware. Each tube is hand coned on the end to ensure that it has a smooth tip that will not harm your pet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fixed the Leaking
Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2024
Like many other reviews stated, this bottle leaked quite a bit at first. But if you fill it all the way up and squeeze till water comes out the spout a few times, then it eventually stops leaking. Just play with it a little. Should be included in the directions

5.0 out of 5 stars Large capacity and good water flow

It takes my 4 thirsty guinea pigs a couple of days to go through the entire bottle of water. There is a rubber seal that does a decent job at preventing leaks. Make sure the seal is seated properly and the cap is screwed tight or it will empty quickly.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!

I have bought this water bottle twice over the past 6 years as a quick cheap in need purchase. 1st when I initially got my small animal (chinchilla) and it was from Walmart and was useless within a week or so. It leaked everywhere until empty. So I having a new animal did some research to find what water bottle was good and may last and settled on getting a glass bottle. It was a great choice that lasted 5ish years till my daughter accidentally broke it resulting in the recent 2nd purchase. Knowing how good the glass bottle is made it my 1st choice but I was in immediate need and hoped it would be OK at least temporarily till I could afford the better one. However, it was leaking after day 1 and within a the week was leaking till empty within a hour. So while it was cheap, it was just about completely useless even just to last a few weeks. I believe it's the product being a flimsy plastic bottle it creates too much air as soon as the animal tries to drink and creates a bubble between the bead and the nozel and while this seems like it should have a fixable solution like squeeze air out, it doesn't. It is like the ball is too light and suction upward creating too much space for liquid to leak out and gets worse each time the animal drinks even with attempts to correct. I am a very frugal (possibly cheap lol) person but some purchases are a complete waste of money and I believe this is one of them. And based on my experience with purchasing the same exact item from very different places this not a fluke. I try to write a review for exceptionally great purchases and the exceptionally bad and this was definitely bad enough to warrant a warning for others not to waste the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes Hamsters Happy!

My son has his first pet hamster. We tried the water bowl for a while but the little guy kept kicking litter into it and soaking up all of the water. So we went bottle. One important note, and it is probably due to the angle the bottle is making with our cage, when you fill it, you need to squeeze the bottle to make sure the metal ball seats at the end. We didn't notice and our little buddy did not get water for a few days. He was so very happy when I fixed that!

4.0 out of 5 stars How I stopped the unwanted dripping
Reviewed in the United States on June 2, 2021
Not gonna lie when I first opened it and filled it up, I immediately wanted to return this because the dripping was frustrating. However I needed it badly for my bunny so I tried and hope my experience helps you:

The KEY is to understand how the bottle works. It uses water pressure to push the ball to the end of feeding tube to stop unwanted water dripping, but not so much that bunny could still push the ball back with their tongue and let water flows down to their mouth.
What works for me is I filled the bottle more than half, ensuring enough water pressure, and squeezed the bottle gently to ensure the ball is moved to the very end of the feeding tube. Then I hanged on with a slight incline angle that ensuring the water pressure is pushing the ball. The unwanted dripping then stops completely. My bunny successfully drank from the bottle ( I rubbed sweet fruit at the end of feeding tube to make her learn to do so).

This is my first day using it. So far so good. I took a star off just cause the trouble and frustration it gave me in the beginning. Hope my experience helps you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect and Cute
Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2024
I love it, it came earlier than it was supposed to, it fits my girl Amy’s cage so well, and once you hook on the bottom piece it stops any dripping from occurring. Very easy to assemble. Overall great product for guinea pigs from my knowledge. The design is also super cute. Recommend buying this from other products because other products on here tend to have a small cap that’s supposed to fit the cage but it often doesn’t, which is why I chose to buy this bottle.

3.0 out of 5 stars I wish they would bring back the old Lixit top fill bottles from 2022
Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2024
The original bottles were much better and easier to attach to cages using a spring.
They were top fill and had an easy opening. Flip it open, add water. Need to move the bottle. Remove spring that was attached with clips, move bottle and reattach. I have 7 double decker Critter Nation cages which gives my 35 rats plenty of play room (5 rats per single level which is 2 feet wide x 3 feet long x3.5 feet high). Been using for 3 years and a few have started leaking, I just wanted to replace them but no longer sold.
These are okay but not near as good.
Others were clear and easy to see water level. These are not as easy to see

5.0 out of 5 stars Weather resistant and effective waterer
Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2024
This is a simple waterer, which uses a ball to hold water in the spout. Although it's advertised for mammals, we use these with our chickens. They are great to use in a broody coop, as they are easy to install on virtually any coop, hold an adequate amount of water for a brood mom and chicks, and lightweight. They fit well inside several small coops we use for broody pens, as well as on a crate (where we sometimes sequester a sick chicken). They're easy to clean, and also keep the coop cleaner than the bowl type waterers, which always end up getting filthy and making the shavings wet. They do make a little noise when being used indoors, but it's not a big deal.
