5.0 out of 5 stars Never fails, and a bargain to boot.

I was used to the 2016 version, plus the 2017 version didn't add in anything that I needed, so I was able to save a bit of cash and picked this up for far less than I expected. It's worked perfectly, with no instances of screwing up burns or projects. If there's nothing you need with the latest version, this one is stable and is a bargain to boot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Same old thing but works on Windows 10
Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2016
I've used both Nero and Roxio for many years. My preference is for Roxio simply because I prefer their interface and because Nero has (if possible) even worse customer assistance than Roxio). Both have many faults which have seemingly never been addressed over the years and the new edition has not changed that. If you dislike the old Nero, get this version. If you hate the old version, skip this one.

I decided to switch to Windows 10. I bought the full-install disk because I want to be able to re-install later, either on my current system or a new one and I don't trust Microsoft with their "fre" version. Both Roxio and Nero companies say that their previous versions will not work on the new system. I went with Nero simply because of the discounted Amazon price of $39. It took 12 minutes (on a pretty fast system) to uninstall Nero Platinum 2014 and 14 minutes to install the 2016 version. There were no hang-ups and installation went smoothly. The interface is almost identical to the older version and just as difficult to find what you are looking for but if you are used to the old version, the new one will be at least familiar.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but missing features.

Works as a burner and you can even make some videos. I have been using Nero for close to 15 years now and it seems they are removing some great features and watering it down compared to 2010/2011. So it is not worth paying retail. I picked it up on a special sale for $25. I would say it is well worth that maybe a few bucks more but unless they bring back some of the old features I will be looking elsewhere for my next burning and editing program.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a big waste of money
Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2016
I bought Nero 2016 Platinum to create slide shows that I can burn to DVD's that will play on virtually any DVD player and watch the slide show on my TV. What a big waste of money, don't purchase this product and I'll tell you why. If I could rate this product in negative star ratings I would give it a minus 5 stars it is that bad a product. Must have been developed and written by a band of off-shore idiots that don't have a grain of common sense amongst the entire lot from their top management down to the janitor. I'll list the problems I have encountered in the order I have encountered them below.

1. Nero has slideshow personalization buttons. They have Themes, Titles and Music and duration. Themes is OK, np there. Titles you can enter as many characters as you want but on playback it will truncate most of them unless you have a very short title. Also you can't specify the font, font size and wrapping the title to multiple lines. It will also not center the title either. How amateurish can you get. If it can't do those basic things what good is it?

2. Being a first time user of Nero, when I installed the product and went through a basic setup where I allowed it to automatically find and load files it finds on your hard drives you have connected. I have an external hard drive connected to my PC in addition to an internal hard drive that is my primary working drive with the external drive being a backup. As of now I am just shy of having 25K images on my primary drive and the same 25K images on my backup. Well you can get the picture of what happened next. Nero loads any image whether it a duplicate or not. And the load is agonizingly slow. I finally figured out how to stop the automatic load and get rid of all the images (except the ones I want to pick from for the slide show). And getting rid of the images from the Nero library it builds is just as agonizingly slow as was the load. Yes it runs a reverse load, image by image.

3. The product help is useless, very high level and you can't search for specific topics. I have never run into such a poorly designed and thought out software package as Nero. Shows absolutely no common sense as to how the product will actually be used.

4. Now comes the really good part and take careful note. So I get all the images lined up for the slide show, get the theme, title and music squared away and preview the slide show. All is good so far, happy with what I see. Next step is to burn it to a DVD. Insert a brand new DVD into my PC's DVD drive and I'm off and running. This slide show I have 620 jpg's lined up. Nero starts its translation (transcoding) process converting the jpg's into a movie format that will essentially yield a slide show when played back with the background music and dissolves between images and all. The "transcoding" process is again slow but not that bad. It took about 20 minutes for the 620 jpg's. Next is the actual DVD burn step. That starts up OK and my DVD drive gets up to speed. The burn process gets down to 50 seconds remaining and 70% complete (per Nero's timing). Well, the 50 seconds left went to over an hour elapsed time and was still running. I decided to cancel the burn and Nero responded with the message that it is aborting the burn. After about another 15 - 20 minutes it is still aborting. Further attempts to abort the process and close the Nero window came up with the "not responding" message at the top of the window. So I went to the task manager and ended the task there and the Nero window went away off the desktop. However, my DVD drive was still going full tilt. Looks like some part of Nero didn't get the message to abort and release all of its resources. During all this time I could perform (run) other apps on my PC, so Windows was not hung up. Next, I brought up Windows Explorer and right clicked on the DVD drive and clicked on the eject option. The DVD did not eject and clicking it additionally yielded the Explorer window not responding message. Next I shut down my PC normally. Doing this usually kills anything and everything that is still running. Not Nero. After my screen went dark, the PC power light was still on and the DVD drive was still going full tilt. Last resort I unplugged my PC. This finally stopped the drive cold. I waited about 30 seconds and plugged my PC back in and re-booted it without any issues and took the DVD out of the drive.

5. The new DVD has just under 5 Gb capacity and my slide show was just under 2 Gb per Nero statistics. I am running the latest version of Windows 10 and all of my drivers and other software is up to date. My PC has 32 Gb RAM and 256 Gb SSD drive as the C drive and a 4 Tb hard drive as the D drive plus a 500 Gb external hard drive. I have an NVidia GeForce video card with the memory on it max'd out. So memory is not an issue here. I have a Dell 8700 XPS desktop that is very well configured. It looks like there may be some hidden Nero settings at work here not being able to handle that many images in a slide show. Whatever it is it stinks. I sent Nero customer support an e-mail detailing this problem and I'm waiting for a response. It will be interesting how quickly they respond.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good as Gold, Platinum?

I like Nero 2016 with its new capabilities, however having to download the two main programs I use as separate tools and that they are not available as part of the main menu is a bit annoying. I like the general layout of Nero 11 better than this layout. Never-the-less, good program.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!! Great for all pc and best for custom built machines!

Awesome product. I've used nero in the past and I do remember issue with burning cds but mainly was due to Spyware causing the computer to run slow causing buffer over runs. In this new day and age and with lots of experience with computers Spyware no more (Spyware from other sources of course i dont think nero has spyware) and with that said this software installed flawlessly. Update was a breeze and I burned my first cd and have been listening to my favorite old Skool songs everyday on my way to and back from work. (what is old Skool to me). I've read some review before I purchased and those complaining about not install correctly or hanging u need to update your pc and don't blame the software. Can't wait to try making 4k movies and as soon as I test the media app I'll post a new review or edit this one

If your v2016 is up to date and you're using Win 10 (possibly Win 8), you can no longer recode HD audio. It was discontinued two weeks ago.
