I am using this on a Toshiba laptop with 500 gig hard drive, 4 Gig memory, Windows 7. I had Sony Vegas 5.0 (Pro version) previously and it did not work with Windows 7. This has all the features I would use and is a fraction of the cost. I have imported media from VHS, DVD player and old 8mm tapes. All flawless. Rendering has been simple, and once I watched a You-Tube video on DVD architect, that was simple too. I had used another DVD authoring program previously. This is the most stable editing software out there. It is crash-free and I have never run into bugs with Vegas. Not so with the others I have used (Pinnacle comes to immediate memory). As is true with all video editing software, you need sufficient memory, and all the technical specs. And never multi-task. I close out virus software, disble wireless, and close unnessary programs. Highly recommend. Of course, there is a learning curve. But once you master it, is is straightforward.

1.0 out of 5 stars Movie Studio HD 10 constantly chokes and crashes

I used Vegas 6 for years with NEVER A SINGLE ISSUE. Ran like a charm--never dissapointed me.

I recently decided to buy Movie Studio HD 10--I downloaded several trial versions before I purchased and even spoke with Sony Sales Support who "encouraged" me to go with HD 10.
Since I was pretty skilled with the V 6 interface--except for a few minor changes, I had no issue navagating and using the program.

HOWEVER...It wont even hardly load on my HP laptop. In all fairness, I only have 1 gig of memory on that machine. Ok, so I need more mem. But really, I should be able to open at least 2 or 3 small little clips and do a simple time line edit of my kids volley ball serve and render it to youtube! Not a chance! It locks up the laptop with even the smallest of files open.

I then installed it on my main production machine, an AMD Phenomn Dual-Core with 4 Gig of memory and this thing constantly chokes and crashes if you have too many clips open in the time line.

And rendering--fagaboutit!!! Rendering time takes ABSOLUTLY FOREVER. I've now pretty much taken to doing all my rendering at night before I go to bed since it ties the machine up preventing me from doing anything else while rendering.

I really wish I would have gone with v 8 or 9. V 10 is a System resource and Memry HOG!!!

DO NOT BUY IT unless you have a Military Grade NASA Supercomputer at your disposal. You will get very frustrated very quickly.

This software is highly user unfriendly. Difficult to use and the directions for its use are limited to say the least. When all is said and done it preforms not quite as well as the basic windows movie maker program but with more frustration attached. Definitely not high tech, Sony makes this program difficult to use just for the sake of the difficult. After much trial and error did get it to function but again not much better than basic programs but harder to use.

Have been using Roxio 7 for some years and decided to upgrade. I tried another product (unnamed) about a year ago and it turned out to be useless, so I was a little apprehensive about Vegas. Got a really good deal on amazon, so I decided to give it a try. I had read that the learning curve was very high, and that may be true, but this program does alot. I sat down for a couple hours with the tutorials, took some notes, and was ready to go. My only complaints are that the workspace is a little tight, I'd like for the preview area to be larger. Also, the program does hang every now and then, so I trained myself to save often. I was only editing SD and I have an older computer, so I would hope this would happen less often with a newer computer. Vegas does have an autosave feature that seems to work pretty well. Really liked the image stabalization feature. I couldn't believe how well that worked. It even comes with DVD Architect for DVD and Blue-Ray authoring. Overall very satisfied with Vegas 10 platinum. My son's 30 minute baseball video turned out great.

5.0 out of 5 stars My goto Editing Software from now on!

You can check some of my previous postings, even as crazy and memory hungry as Adobe Premier Elements has been I always thought it was the best user interface...just a great simple to understand interface to get things done. Having said that I was not confident in recommending it to countless friends who asked for my recommendation on editing software for their home video. Most of them simply did not have the computing power and memory to overcome Premier Elements memory hog headaches.

In addition to Adobe I have used Magix Movie Edit Pro, Corel VideoStudio Pro and Pinnacle Studio. Magix is a second to this new Sony release; however, NOT a close second...just second.

I am comfortable now in recommending Sony's Vegas Movie Studio HD. Yes you need some specific computer power and memory but from what I have thrown at it so far (1080P MTS and AVCHD files from my Canon, Samsung and Pentax Camcorders...it has performed flawlessly.

I have also enjoyed a stress-free, crash-free rendering and burning to DVD all types and lengths of video footage.

It appears that Sony got this right and we will all benefit from it.

If Adobe was ever to get off it's tail and actually add some real user value to a next release...as well as do something about it's memory appetite and unstableness I might go back, but for now I'm making Sony Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0 my goto app for video.
