Yes, this game was released in 1996, about 15 years ago from the date I'm writing this review. But, don't let the passed time fool you. This is still a very solid game that makes learning and creativity very fun. I certainly did have a lot of fun spending time trying to build a plane that flies the furthest, or creating a system that would lead a mouse to its cheese.
Some thoughts:
- This game is about brainstorming, trying out different things, and ultimately to foster thinking. You won't be learning anything too technical in math or science, but the game does challenge you.
- Gadgettorium is one of my favorite parts of Invention Studio. You're tasked to create a gadget using conveyor belts, elevators, power generators, etc. to successfully guide the mouse to start to finish. Animation is cool, and 3D graphics are surprisingly good for 1996.
- In the Garage, you can create planes, trucks, and cars using the many different components of the respective vehicles. Afterwards, you can test them to see how far they can go.
An inventive game that encourages thinking, all while making it fun to play. Highly recommended game. If your child can handle these older graphics, then they are in for a great game.
