3.0 out of 5 stars Not Sure How I Feel About Rosetta Stone
Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2013
I've almost finished the set and I'm not sure how I feel. At first, I thought I was learning so much but, now, I don't think I've really learned too much useful knowledge. I've covered a lot of material and vocabulary but I don't think there's been enough basic conversational skill work for me to even be able to have a simple "hello, how are you" conversation. Perhaps if I did the telephone tutoring it would be better. Also, verb tense education was not the best. I found myself on Google Translate a lot trying to figure out what tense we were working on. In the end, I think I've learned something and I've gotten my money's worth but I don't think I've "learned Italian" and I'm not sure I would get my money's worth if I purchased the next level.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lots of advertising, very disappointed

While I'm going to stick with this program, I'm really disappointed in its performance.

First of all, on several occasions the program just stops in mid-course. So I have to go back to beginning to restart it.

Secondly, it's difficult to go back to previous lessons. For example, I had a three week hiatus between lessons so I felt I needed to review. I've spent an hour or more trying to go back to earlier lessons. Finally, I looked at the modest support pages. There was nothing to describe how to go back.

Though I could not find a support number to call, if you look carefully you can find a chat room. That may work. We'll see.

Though this slick program is advertised widely and we see kiosks in just about every mall and airport, a little more thought should be given to polish the program and provide support to users.

Finally, there's no real explanation of why the language is the way it is. There's no explanation of grammar. I guess they are trying to teach you more instinctively, like a child learns, without a lot of boring grammar. But I would like some middle ground so I can understand what happens to verbs etc.

I would not buy Rosetta Stone again. Very disappointed in a shoddy product.

Love the opportunity to use the online features. I've learned a lot but there are some frustrations when new language is thrown at me and I have no way of knowing what it means.

This is a great product. I had my doubts, but it was well worth the money. Be warned you can only download it twice, so after putting it on my computer and my husbands, now that it is time to upgrade we cannot download it again. That's a bummer. But it really is a great way to learn a language. I am very impressed with this program.

3.0 out of 5 stars WARNING! INCOMPATIBLE WITH ZONE ALARM AND McAFEE FIREWALLS
Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2015
Quite frankly, I was LIVID upon learning from Rosetta Stone tech support that this program is incompatible with both Zone Alarm and McAfee firewall software. Especially after spending more than 4 hours trying to get the program to run -- much of that with them signed in to my computer to fix the problem remotely themselves. You'd think they'd be aware that their software didn't work with two of the world's most popular firewalls and would have that information right at hand, but I digress.

Once I had uninstalled Zone Alarm and switched over to Comodo, I was able to get the Rosetta Stone software up and running. Upon taking the first lesson, I discovered that the lessons are pretty intuitive and easy to learn from. I anticipate gaining enough familiarity from this system that I won't be hopelessly lost when I visit Italy later this year.

Seriously, though -- incompatibility with Zone Alarm and McAfee? That's just inexcusable!

I made one mistake - unless you are really able to work on this for a large amount of time from the beginning, I would not opt for the 3 month, on line, interactive trial period until later.

3.0 out of 5 stars V4 is incompatible with ZoneAlarm Security Suite.
Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2013
V4 is incompatible with ZoneAlarm Security Suite. RosettaStone tech support was very professional. Tech took control of my PC & downgraded to V3 and it worked but not V4, as purchased. After I uninstalled Zonealarm, V4 works. Disabling ZoneAlarm or setting it not to start didn't help. Wife wants Rosetta Stone so I gotta get a solution from ZL or get a new firewall app.
