I'm going to preface this by saying that my daughter and I have two different ratings for this product. She currently thinks it's a four star product, I say 5. We purchased this 3 years ago, when our daughter was 7. If you'd have asked her at that time, she would have said 1 star. She found it frustrating, wouldn't try the games so much, and didn't want to deal with it. And because I was dealing with some pretty intense stuff at the time, I figured I'd just wait until, oh, I don't know, she found something she really wanted to do that needed typing and say "here you go, have at it!"
So this time around it's going much better. She says she doesn't like all of the music, she thinks some of it's annoying and that the lessons and games could be more interesting. And yet, when I tried to get my computer back to write this review, she kept playing the games, even after I told her to get off. So, that tells me they're a bit more interesting then a 10 year old should want to admit to her mother. My perspective is that this is a better suite of lessons and games then I've seen available for free instruction on-line, and it was worth the price. It has run on two different computers with different versions of Windows (we're currently running windows 10 and it works fine with that also), and I feel like it's definitely a serious step up from how I had to learn typing back when I was in high school. Back when we actually had to use fossils called type writers.
I think the take home message from this is that this is an effective bit of software, and will totally get the job done. How your child receives it, if you are planning on using it with a kiddo, may depend on their age and enthusiasm level for learning how to type. I don't see anything wrong with it and would have found it infinitely preferable to the manner in which I learned typing back in high school.
