I like this program, it’s a little clunky in that it doesn’t have a pick up where you left off mode ( or I don't know how to use it if there is one). It prepares and e-files fed and state returns without issue. I wish the state efiles were free too but can always print and mail in.

I had been taking my taxes to professionals during my working years when filing my duo-taxes (U.S. + Canadian). But after the sale of my California rental property and retiring, my taxes to both countries became much less complicated... and, my income was less. In retirement, I did not feel I needed tax pros to do my taxes, nor did I want to pay over 500 dollars to have them done.

I no longer file in Canada as I live in the U.S., but I still needed software that could handle my foreign pension. Other software packages did not provide Form 1116 that I needed, and it really is not very complicated to do my taxes with the right forms. Last year I tried HR Block online, and while it was OK and I did buy their Pro help package, I found it frustrating to wait days to hear back from the Pro after each text to her. But, I did learn how to do it myself with HRBlock Pro, and decided to actually buy the software this year to have access to my tax forms after filing.

I will buy this software next year as it is easy to use when you know what forms you need, and they are provided. The only issue I had was filing Homestead Taxes with my state. Even though I put in all the information for the Homestead tax, it did not transmit online with my state taxes as it should have. I just got my property taxes and they were high because the software did not eFile my Homestead taxes. HR Block was there to help me figure out what went wrong, and told me to select all of my forms in the Print function (next year) even though I am filing electronically. This will ensure that all forms are sent in Efile

This version as of 2022-02-21 has an apparent severe error in preparing Vermont state returns. As in years past, the tax software asks if you want to prepare the Vermont Homestead declaration form and send it with your income tax. That form is necessary if you want to declare yourself as a Vermont resident owning a home and is necessary to receive a reduction in property tax granted to Vermonters but not people owning a home from out of state. While the tax preparation asks if want to create this form and asks you to fill in questions concerning it, this year the software has an apparent error where it does NOT actually print out the form as part of your tax return. It instead apparently treats it as a worksheet which is not actually sent out as part of your tax return. I only caught this error because I am meticulous in verifying my tax returns and as part of the process do a page by page comparison between this year's returns and last year's returns. Had I not caught this, I would have assumed that my homestead declaration had been received by the state of VT and it would not have been. I would have than been later surprised by a huge increase in my property tax which I would have been unable to fix.

I called H&R Block about the problem and they told me level 2 support would contact me within 5 business days. The 5 days have not yet expired. I will let you know if they contact me and what they say.

Update: 3/6/23 As no one reached out to me from level 2 support, I just called H&R Block software support. I waded through maybe 10 minutes of questions I had answered before before the representative would take the case # I was previously given. I was told that the notes said the case would be escalated to level 2 support that the case was marked as closed and apparently never forwarded. I spent the next 30-40 minutes with the level 1 support person as she tried to analyze the problem. Once she verified the tax form was supported by the software she attempted to again escalate to level 2 support seeking management approval. At that point, I was told the H&R Block solution was for me to go to the state website, download the HS-122 form that the H&R Block software could not print and submit it to the state manually. At that point they considered the case closed. I told the support person that I was uncomfortable with that, that this year because of a software error, I had to manually do at least a portion of my Vermont income tax and unlike most software organizations they did not apparently create a ticket to identify this as a problem that needed attention in future releases. I told her I had no confidence that this software error would be addressed in the future and after using the product since 2007, I will be switching to Turbo Tax. I asked since I could not use the software to generate returns whether I was entitled to a refund. She said the answer was yes if I purchased it in the last 60 days. I asked if it made a difference if I purchased it from Amazon and they said no refund was possible unless the product was purchased directly from them. As Amazon states no refunds are possible, I now know that H&R Block will not back up their product and I am out of luck of ever obtaining a refund for this bad software. Amazon's H&R Block software was a bit cheaper but if the software has a mistake too bad for you apparently.

So for the first time ever, I downloaded Turbo Tax and used it to e-file my Federal and State returns. The HS-122 was generated as expected. Interestingly the Turbo Tax Vermont state program made a mistake in how it calculated state capital gains exclusions which I only caught because the refund was more than what H&R Block calculated. Overriding the Turbo Tax form in question with one simple checkbox fixed everything. I will be using Turbo Tax next year and know the quirks to look for.

I have ordered this digital product for the last 3 years. This was the first time finding the download button and activation code was a headache. I followed the original instructions provided by Amazon and just got frustrated. Thanks to comments and reviews from other users I was able to download.

Works fine for me. I purchased the digital download version for Mac OS.
Was little difficult to find the download product section on Amazon after purchasing, but finally did.
Software installed fine on my MacBook Pro with Mac OS Ventura 13.0.

To the other users having issues. Reading is fundamental. Make sure you purchase the correct version of the computer platform that you intend to use it on.
If you have a Windows laptop or PC, download version.
If you have a Mac desktop or laptop, download the Mac version.
hint....Mac version does not mean iOS, for the person who said they bought the Mac version and could not get it to install on their iPad..come on man!

Looks and behaves the same way as last years version. Just waiting for Jan. 3rd or whatever the date maybe for the software updates and forms to be available.

I hope y'all didn't over pay and got it while it was on sale! ;-)
