1.0 out of 5 stars Newer doesn't mean better

I've been using Photo Explosion Deluxe 3 for years and loved it. My old computer took a nose dive so I had to replace it with a new one with Windows 7 and PE 3 definitely doesn't work with it so I ordered PE4 despite reading the reviews. I don't know why they made it so complicated, PE3 was so simple, a few clicks here and there and you were done. The old cloning tool, which was the main thing I used, was great, this new one is impossible. I make calendars for different websites and I don't know if I'll be able to do them anymore. I'm trying to work with a few of the free programs out there just to get me through October's calendar and maybe if I'm lucky I'll have enough of PE4 figured out to get November's done in time. I wish I would have saved my money...I'm glad I didn't spend the extra to get the deluxe version this time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this editor..

I bought a new laptop computer with Windows 7 and my old Photo Explosion would not install on it so I purchased this. This is a greatly upgraded version of the older Photo Explosion. This new version V4 lets you adjust most anything on every edit feature you want, you just don't get a fixed amount edit like the old version did like pencil, watercolor etc. I used the clone feature a lot to remove items in a photo (power lines) and its super easy to use as is most other features once you get the hang of them. I must say that newcomers to photo editing will have a steep learning curve with this software as its feature rich. I will also say that a fast processor is recommended, mine has a i5 processor and some effects take a while to change like blurs but no excessive waits. The help button on every action you want is explained nicely. The instruction booklet included is huge but is only a backup to the help button for me. I have most of the other photo editing software but I find this V4 software much better and easier to use. It really helps to have used the previous version of Photo Explosion and be experienced with other brands of software as it really reduces the steepness of the learning curve. If you want great editing software and have the patience to learn it, this is for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT USER FRIENDLY
Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2010
I ORIGINALLY GOT A FORMER EDITION OF PHOTO EXPLOSION FREE WITH SOME COMPUTER HARDWARE THAT I PURCHASED. IT WAS SO USER FRIENDLY THAT I EXCELLED WITH IT WITHIN 24 HOURS. I LOVED THE CLONING, PHOTO FRAMES, SPECIAL EFFECTS, TRIMMING TOOL, ETC. THIS LED ME TO PURCHASE THIS 4.0 EDITION WHICH IS NOT THE SAME. IT LOOKS LIKE I WILL HAVE TO CONSTANTLY REFER TO THE MANUAL AND I HAVE YET TO GIVE THIS SOME TIME SO IT WOULD BE UNFAIR TO RATE IT INDIVIDUALLY BUT AGAINST THE FREE PROGRAM, I WOULD SAY THAT THIS VERSION IS NOT USER FRIENDLY; (YET).

I like the item however it was very hard to use, and slowed down my computer way too much. Still a fairly good buy for the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Way too hard to use

OMG!!! After two weeks of pulling my hair out, even after talking to a support person......I gave up!!! and I have used photo editing before and am tech savy....I removed it from my system...and I'm now on the hunt for something else. As another reviewer said, one star is too many.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eat your heart out Adobe
Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2010
I have been using Adobe Elements 4 to improve my pictures but I was forced to make a change when I recently purchased a new PC running Windows 7. Upgrading my Adobe Elements would have cost $100 so I looked for alternatives. I was a bit suspicious of Photo Explosion. After all, its price was $30 with a $10 mail-in rebate. However, it turns out to be a great package. Easy to use and far more capability that I will probably ever use. And, the software comes with a very useful manual. I haven't had a decent manual in years from anyone else. I recommend, without any reservations that you buy Photo Explosion.

2.0 out of 5 stars Competent Image Editor but it caused crash after crash
Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2010
It is a competent image editor and a decent bargain for the price. Perfect for a person starting out or just wanting to do editing for self and family. It has an easy-to-view user interface and all the necessary adjustment tools for the average person, nicely laid out on the margins. With a little practice easy enough to work with, unlike much advertised products by Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro, best left for diehard photo experts.

Some of the extra features are interesting, but the workable QUICK-FIX-STUDIO seems to lack automatic features and the INSTANT ARTIST has few options producing less than amazing results. There is a DE LUXE VERSION available for a few more dollars, which is packed with all sorts of goodies for someone interested in collages, scrapbooks, slideshows and the like. In fact, this latter version seems like a really good bargain for the price.

If you are just getting your feet wet in the photo editing, you could add to your software collection by downloading some excellent freeware (free and freeware are not the same!!!) basic photo editors, like PHOTOFILTRE and PHOTOSCAPE.

In any case, PHOTO EXPLOSION may turn out to be a good buy for you. :)
2014 -- I had to give it up because it kept freezing up and kept causing crashes :(
