Bought this program which does not work....only AFTER the program is purchased and AFTER I tried downloading it was I informed it is NOT compatible with my laptop. That should have been made clear up front. Yeah...and try getting a refund from Amazon....impossible! Extremely disappointed!!!

I do transcription work from home and the software we use wouldn't install on my new computer. This was a fraction of the updated price for that software and does the job quite well. It installed easily.

Registration a bit confusing

I was a little confused when I first used this because it indicated I was using a free trial version, and sure enough, after the first couple uses it expired. However, on closer examination I realized that Amazon downloads the trial version but also provides a registration code. You have to go to Express Scribe's website to register the product. Since that time, I've had no problem.

The software opens my downloaded mp3 files automatically and notifies me that a new file has been received, It has all the adjustments one expects for transcription software: playback speed, volume, display options, and so forth. It was very easy to pair it with my Infinity foot pedal and works perfectly with it. I use it along with Microsoft Word. If you've ever used transcription software of any kind, I think you'll find Express Scribe easy and intuitive to learn.

Not what expected

This software provides very low audio output - same audio in another software comes out clearer and louder. I have been working with another transcription software (Listen and Write) and I expected Express Scribe to be superior, but it is not. On the other hand it is hard to keept it on Playing with pausing, if you pause or stop your audio file and need to start it again you have to reset it so the recording pauses on its own. It does not allow to set times for playbacktime before pausing or time of pause before playback, so you need to keep either pedaling or using the keyboard for that purpose. I wish I could be refunded for this.

I had the free version for a long time, and it was okay, but the paid version is much easier to use. However, I would recommend using a foot pedal with this because I found that the hot keys did not always respond. (I assume this is a glitch in the software.) But using a foot pedal helps you to avoid having to use the Hot Keys at all.

You Get What You Pay For

My husband works from home, and we thought since the reviews were so high it would be a good addition to help him in his work. Unfortunately, he absolutely hates it. Even more unfortunately, you can't return it if the product is not adequate. So we just wasted $40. It could be worse, it could have been expensive. I guess you get what you pay for.

What he was using before was Start-Stop Omniversal. I think he's going to go back to that, since that worked very, very well for him. We would not recommend this product for a professional editor, caption editor, or transcriber.

Transcription Needed

I needed to do some transcribing for my job but didn't want to be tied down to what I got from my company or have to go through the red tape required to get it. I had purchased the Express Scribe Transcription software before and when I got my new personal computer, I purchased the updated version. (I already had the foot pedal from my initial software purchase several years ago.) I was able to transcribe the recordings very easily and find this software to be much easier than the Olympus software I had been using on my job. I would recommend this product.

I thought this was a speech to text software using speech recognition. However, this turned out to be a type it yourself software with the software allowing you to control playback speed. Too bad this product was non refundable. I tried looking for a tech support number or email. Their website only offered tutorials.
