5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Great for running on Windows 7
Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2023
This has got to be one of the best versions of Paint Shop Pro I've ever owned. It runs better than Version 6 (one of the best) and is a joy to use. I don't run OS Windows 10 or up for due to some personal issues with Microsoft when I was working as a Technical Writer. For these reasons, I naturally switched back to Windows XP and 7 (if you should be wondering why I using older versions of Windows) to do the job I was hired for.

Anyway, I love this program which will serve me faithfully for a long time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Will cost additional funds to get animation shop
Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2007
I uninstalled an old version of Jasc PSP 7, and it also removed animation shop, which had been bundled in 7. I'm unsure about reinstalling it with this version, so that leaves me the option of buying animation shop at full price from Corel. :\

Version X takes some getting used to. I spent hours trying to figure out the new locations for particular tool settings, and of course nothing you really need will ever be in the help file.

4.0 out of 5 stars Compatibility with Photoshop & Painter a plus!!!!

I have Paint Shop Pro Ultimate X2, so that's the version I'm basing my review on. As far as image-editing software goes, Adobe Photoshop is my favorite. Having said that, I'm also a fan of Corel Painter and Paint Shop Pro. I generally prefer scanning artwork into Photoshop first and then taking it into Painter to add flat colors or even complete it for more "painterly" illustrations. For doing artwork in a "comicbook" style (where I choose to keep the brushed inkwork & shading), I tend to go back and forth between Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro. These three pieces of software truly shine because I can switch seamlessly between them with no problems. I truly enjoy having options for my artwork and Photoshop, Painter, and Paint Shop Pro meet my wants, needs, and requirements for finishing artwork. Also, I don't use the so-called "Professional" or "Student/Teacher" versions--these are far too expensive and that's money I could be spending on other gadgets. To clarify, I use the version of Photoshop which came with my Wacom Bamboo Fun Tablet along with Painter 4 Essentials and a copy of Paint Shop Pro X2 I purchased from my local OfficeMax a few years back. I've just recently discovered how to create and upload my own Picture Tubes for use in Paint Shop Pro--very similar to creating & uploading new brushes in Photoshop. This feature alone has breathed new life into Paint Shop Pro. I generally work with some features more than others, and Paint Shop Pro has many that I'll definitely discover and use when I want to try something new. As I said, I tend to use programs like this more for coloring & enhancing artwork more than photographs. However, I have gained a deeper love & appreciation for photography and I'll soon be taking graphic design courses at my local community college. Since I've never used any other versions of Paint Shop Pro, I hope Corel will see fit to add two features in future iterations that I enjoy in Photoshop--the lens flare and gradation tool options. In fact, I'd even love to see Corel include a drawing interface similar to Autodesk Sketchbook or MyPaint to Paint Shop Pro or even Painter. Overall, Paint Shop Pro is a very good and affordable graphics program which also works well with a Wacom tablet and a complement to Photoshop & Painter.

1.0 out of 5 stars Old Paint shop prox very cheap

Was completely unusable as could not copy program to hard drive. The disc was seriously damaged (blistered) although the packaging was fine. The product code could not be used as the program from the disc was needed. The program download from the Internet is different and won't accept the product code on this. The price was extremely low and you don't get anything for nothing. Didn't get information on this for ages from gift recipient so that I could do anything about it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Corel is ruining what JASC made famous
Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2006
There was a time when Paint Shop Pro was one of the quickest image editing programs around. The price was very easy on the wallet and the software ran wel on minimum systems. What has happened? Corel bought the JASC product. It is now on version 10 (X) and has all the Corel bagage to go with it. Don't buy the upgrade version. I purchase a brand new computer, installed the upgrade version and found it doesn't verify the prefvious version CD in a drive. You must fully install version 9 in order to install verion 10. The product is supposed to be faster and cleaner than the last version. Photo Impact in all it's glory is faster! Did I mention the price continues to rise with the Corel name? They send more email, surveys, and ads than Microsoft. They have terrible customer service and support. I contacted them 3 times for support. I sat on hold for 20 minutes, then was transfered to wait some more. I tried email, and their web site. Having been a JASC user for years, I was used to a far better quality of service. Overall my experience with PSP x and Corel has not been good. This will be my last version of PSP. PSP was a great alternative for someone who could afford PhotoShop. Soon PSP will cost as much, for a whole lot less, from a company that make Serif look like Adobe. The era has ended for PSP, back around version 8. It's a sad day for those who remember JASC, Shareware, and Paint Shop Pro.

    I have to give the product a 2. I would give Corel a 0.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent software!

Paint Shop Pro 10 is a great Windows based graphics package. I've used it at various stages over the years, and v10 is definitely the best yet! One of its best assets is its power, but the simplicity with which you can use it. For instance - there are tools to auto-fix photos, many work quite well. But, if you don't feel like using the automatic tools, all the manual tools are there for your use too - along with a ton of adjustable parameters, etc. Basically, it's simple to learn to use, but powerful enough to be very capable and get about as complex as you might want. Professional use? Dunno, but it's stood up quite nicely to everythng I've needed to do! It's a great buy, and much much cheaper than the Adobe offering.
