Program installed without issue and, after four updates, has behaved nicely. It comes with a boat load of additional media you can use to enhance your images, like textures, patterns, and so fourth. This program is just crammed with convenient little options that improve your workflow. For example, when applying a drop shadow effect, you have the option of having the actual shadow placed on its own layer, rather than the current one. This makes it easier to further edit the shadow later on. This program can get colors to really pop, and there are several options for doing so. There is a Smart Photo Fix command that's useful for giving you some ideas on how images can be improved. The new Object Extractor and Smart Carver tools might not be 100% perfect, but they greatly minimze the work that would otherwise be involved for achieving such tasks. Like previous versions, PSP X3 just gets my images looking the way I want them to quickly and intuitively. It's no PhotoShop, but it comes surprisingly close at times.
There is alot of negative talk regarding this program, and some of it's warranted. Most of the issues revolve around the program's method of dealing with RAW files, along with performance on Windows 7. I don't use either, so I really can't comment, but apparently those two aspects are seriously lacking. PSP X3 installs two separate programs, which are the actual editor, and a second called Project Creator. Most folks have had no luck with Project Creator, and I am no exception, as for some reason, it won't access my directories. It's no great loss because most of what it can do can also be done within the main program, but it is advertised as part of the package, and therefore should work. In any case, I'd probably reconsider this purchase if I was using Windows Vista or 7, or if I had a greater need for RAW support. I defintely wouldn't purchase it if the Project Creator stuff was important to me.
If, like me, you have minimal need for an image editor, but want to work with something that offers powerful options when the need arises, PSP X3 might be the solution. It's got some quirks, and support for higher end technologies needs a major overhaul, but for the price, the powerful editor makes it a worthwhile option.
