Math detective is an excellent program for people like myself who need help with math for test etc. I found this program very easy to use. I started using it when I first received it and I have not put it down yet. I feel like I am making progress in the program. I love it and I will go to the santiago website and search for other learning programs. thanks.

Software must be 16 bit, has built in security problems which immediately makes your machine vulnerable and advertises out to attack services while attempting to load. Then after much deliberation, fails completely to launch on XP 32 bit machine, even with 16 bit enabled. Software flashes message that there is a missing file, probably associated with an old file driver line which is required in the registry, and has been updated beyond compatibility for security reasons. Make it work and loose your machine.

It should be a pretty good software, but it is not updated for MacOS X, so this does not work properly at many occasion on newer Macs. Please not that it will not run on Intel Mac at all. If you are still using old Macs with OS 9s, you would be much happier.

The game would not load on one of our computers. We checked the computer security, operating system (Windows 7), etc, and couldn't find what was causing the holdup. We loaded on a different computer (Vista), and it loaded fine. We have used other Carmen Sandiego games and have enjoyed them. While this one was not our favorite, it is ok.

You can not play this game. There is a uninstall program in the way. I would not suggest buying this as you can not load the game.
I have XP and go not load the game.

I played this when it first came out ('97? '98?) and I was 7 (or 8, respectively) years old at the time. Now I am in my twenties and I thought I'd play it for fun (don't judge!), so I feel I have two different perspectives now.
As a kid, this game was fun... but intense. I found myself getting scared at climactic sequences: the "evil" characters can be quite menacing to see charging towards you, the player. However, it kept me engaged. I think if your child is into an adrenaline rush, this is a great game to help them practice math skills. My skills were definitely tested and improved over time.
As an adult (or let's just say a kid in an adult's body), I think the math challenges are appropriate and can be adjusted based on your child's abilities (skill level can be set). I think it's a good idea to sit with them at first and not leave them in a dark room, haha. The music can be nerve-wracking!
I know I've made it sound more PG-13 than it is, but this game really is GREAT and such a fabulous way of teaching math concepts which are otherwise so drab in theory (no offense to any math buffs out there!).
