I'm a big skeptic of "learn to ___" books, CD's and software. Especially when (like Rosetta Stone) they are fairly expensive. But, we had been hearing good things from a friend about her use of the Spanish Level 1 course (her husband is fluent) and then the software went on a really good sale on Amazon. So, it was the right combination of events to make the purchase.
NOTE: One thing people may not know is the software comes with a headset (USB) to plug into your computer. Headsets like that are routinely over $50 anyway.
But, let me tell you why after two short lessons I'm a total convert to Rosetta Stone: the teaching methodology. I walked away from just two lessons actually thinking about the words and phrases I had been using. Based on first few the interactions I was actively doing the mental translations for the next few hours while not even in-front of my PC. That is some powerful stuff.
I'm looking forward to continuing the first level and will hopefully stick with it onto the next levels. I would have no hesitation purchasing the next levels of this training at (close to) full price. It is a brilliant system.
