I chose this as a solution for the discontinuation of support by MS for Windows 7. The installation was fast and easy and automatically installed internet, email and open source office software so that it was ready to use out of the box. The default install also includes the WINE compatibility layer, allowing the running of Windows programs. This has worked with everything I’ve thrown at it with the exception of the Big Fish games manager, although the games work fine when obtained from their original suppliers.

There is also an application that links to and installs hundreds of other compatible programs, automatically installing additional files as needed on an app by app basis. This has worked seamlessly, although so far I have had no luck getting past the download and expand (unzip) steps in the case of software obtained from outside sources.

File sharing was easy to set up between the Linux machine and my spouse’s Win 10 machine. Printing and scanning to our Epson all-in-one is fast and the quality good, although the available settings are pretty basic.

Updates are frequent and handled through an icon in the system tray. Restore points are easy to create, although so far through three such updates I have yet to need to use one.

A command window (á là DOS ― C prompt, blinking cursor) is available for those able and inclined to write code but there is also a perfectly serviceable control panel for the rest of us. For internet, mail, videos and graphics most folks could easily pick up where they left off and not miss a beat.

I received the USB stick and CD on time, no issues there. The USB stickwas missing the install "grub" and would not install. I contacted the seller and he sent out a new USB stick after many days. I just had time today to install the software on an older Dell pc. While the "grub" is now working, I receive many errors and the software states that EXT24 is corrupt so this software doesn't load. I am very frustrated and angry that I paid for useless software. I think that the seller was nice to send me a replacement, but alas the replacement is worthless. I do not recommend this seller.

It would not boot computer

I might have received a bad Pr-loaded flash drive. I ended up creating my own. Its all free info online to create your own Linux Mint boot disk but u will need a 15 GB flash drive (amazon sales them $5-10 dollars)its easy download Linux mint 64 or 32 ISO then go online find Rufus-3.10 follow the instructions. The CD that came with it has a great printable manual on using Linux which I use. So the CD and non-usable flush drive wasn't worth the time to send back ($15 bucks) so I kept and fixed them (It may work on other CPU's but their FD wouldn't boot any of my computers to load Linux Mint

Makes your computer faster

I installed this on my slow and clunky Lenovo Yoga 710, and just had to press the Novo button and change bios startup order. It installed great and just upgraded to Linux Mint 19.2 just my clicking on the upgrade in the update manager. My PC is fast again and Linux does not need anti virus. Thanks!

Does not work with old Windows laptops

I tried to use this on an old Windows laptop machine (HP Pavilion) whose boot sector got corrupted. Before purchasing this stick, I tried asking a local computer repair person, he wanted $125 to recover my files. I thought this stick would help me get access to the files on that laptop and I would save myself that $125, but it did not work.

I am keeping the stick though, to see if I can make use of it to install Linux on an old PC that did not get corrupted already.

The thumb drive apparently did not contain the ISO file required to do the installation, though it did include a Linux launcher (which looked for a dvd drive with an installation disk). I went to one of the Mint mirror sites and downloaded the program, and that worked flawlessly. The course was pretty basic- and would not have conferred sufficient knowledge to overcome the lack of software. I would advise going to one of the Linux Mint sites, downloading the file, burning your own disk, and buying a book on the topic. There's also a ton of tutorials online.

Please people don't spend your money on this crap, the flash drive didn't boot and I did not receive the DVD bonus was not included. I called Amazon to resolve the problem and thanks to them on Amazon I will get a refund when I send back what I got, so I printed a PDF label with instructions. Please guys do not buy this it has to many bad reviews.
