For Blu-Ray total scam

For Blu Ray users PowerDVD 10 Standard and Deluxe are a total scam. Why? Because only PowerDVD 10 Ultra decodes VC1 files, which comprise a very large chunk of the Blu Ray discs out there. Standard and Deluxe do not.

I discovered that after paying the full price for this to "upgrade" from PowerDVD 7 I couldn't play almost any of my Blu Ray titles as they were VC1 and an "Unsupported Format". When I figured out that only Power DVD Ultra would play VC1 I decided to look into upgrading. It turns out the "upgrade" is nearly $70, close to price of buying it new.

If you must buy a product from such a sleezy company as Cyberlink get the Ultra version and save yourself from essentially have to buy it twice to watch your movies.

And yeah, the interface is really annoying.

Great software - horribly intrusive

If you're a video editing buff, you'll enjoy this software. If, however, you value your privacy and figure you might -- someday -- want the option of de-installing this software without paying a heavy price for it, I recommend you find something less intrusive. De-installing any of CyberLink's software will leave with hundreds if not thousands of Registry entries which are nigh impossible to delete, as well as applications still running surreptitiously in the background which are difficult to stop and remove. It can be done, but it may take you many hours and you may be left with a hobbled Registry if you're not just real good at what you're doing and very careful to boot. Software companies should be held accountable for these kinds of horrible practices. Personally I would give this a three thumbs down except for the software's usefulness.

Not What I Expected

I had anticipating being able to play bluray discs, and this was not the product for that purpose, My original version (which was PowerDVD 10 that came with my DVD/Bluray Burner) was able to play bluray discs but had stopped working. I thought this version was the same thing but I was disappointed to find out it was not . I contacted DiscountGiant USA via Amazon and to their credit they refunded my full purchase price including shipping. The 3 stars was given for the product, not the supplier.

Good software, BUT!!!

Power DVD10 does a good job of playing DVD's and does upscale fairly well. My only complaint is the "Movielive" part of the program. Since the software is constantly conected to the web, they know what you are watching and are constantly proding for feedback. If there is a way to shut "movielive" off I have been unable to figure that out to date. What I watch is my business and I prefer my privacy to the constant bombardment of their trying to solicit my input on movies I have no desire to watch let alone give feed back on.

This was a life saver. It is an old program that I needed to play old material. All of the new programs are so complex that they did not do the job. "new and improved" isn't necessarily a good thing.

Waste of Time and Disk Space. Absolutely a Piece of Junk

This program comes on the installation CD that comes with my LG DVD burner I bought 6 months ago.

I needed to play some mp4 video downloaded from youtube. VLC media player was FREE, open source and it played mp4 but the picture looked fuzzy. Windows Media player v.11 and QuickTime Standard could not play mp4 files. So, I installed PowerDVD 10. It did not play mp4 either. It gave error "Can't play acc audio." It asked me to upgrade and pay for the latest version. What a useless program! I wondered if it's just a bait to force users to pay for the commercial version.

I downloaded K-lite Codec Pack that includes Media Player Classic for Home Cinema for FREE from cnet dot com. Now, my mp4 files are played flawlessly. The picture is sharp and beautiful.

I ended up uninstalling PowerDVD 10. It's absolutely a piece of junk.

Now, I've found out I can play mp4 files with Firefox. It's free, and safe. It contains no virus. It's a perfect solution. Once in a while, there's a mp4 file it could not play. Then, I found out the file was corrupt because it could not play in any other media player either.

If you store your DVDs on your hard drive as I do, you need this player. It plays VOB files right off your HD and plays them back with up-scaling so they look as good as if you played them off an up-scaling DVD or Blu-Ray player.

This product looses one star for not allowing you to use 'cinema mode' for files. (Its a mode that hides all the controls. As it is, while playing files the control bars MUST be on screen... WHY?)

Very easy to install with no glitches. DVDs played smoothly. Fixed past problems with codecs which were a major problem.
