1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible product - HOPELESS support!
Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2009
I won't go in the long and boring details about the level of anger and frustration I feel towards this crappy product or even crappier company (Pinnacle) suffice to say that I will never own a Pinnacle product ever again. Do yourselves a favor - pay the extra mony and get Sony Vegas. This is one of the worst software products I have ever had the misfortune to pay money for - and an even worse company supporting it. Rude, arrogant and careless. Don't touch this product or ANYTHING Pinncle happens to 'produce'.

3.0 out of 5 stars Recommended hardware requirements too low
Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2005
For some reason the program works for me. I have a P4 (3Ghz) with 1GB of RAM. Available HD space is about 40 GB. I made a 75-minute video with added transitions and sound and burned it to a DVD, it took about 3.5 hrs. to complete. The computer ran very slow during this process. Tech support said the software must complete the "rendering" process twice before it will burn to a disc. Personally, I think the minimum hardware requirement is a fast P4 with 1GB of RAM and lots of room on the HD, anything less may lock up the computer. I also downloaded the latest patches. The program will still lock up my computer at times... Steve

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for small projects-- YEARS of use
Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2010
I am a high school librarian using Pinnacle video products for 10 years. (No, they are not paying me anything. I'm writing this purely to help people.) I've been using Pinnacle 9 WITH the patch I downloaded for free from their website. Pinnacle 9.4.3 has been an easy program that does everything I want, including making DVD's. (The MPEG 2 DOES work, but you have to email for the codec, which is annoying any time you get a different computer. Also, under DISC settings you will have to choose DVD each time instead of the default CD.) I love it becuase it's easy for me to use and teach to kids and adults. (I taught a media class where the kids were required to make one video with Movie Maker, one with Roxio, and one with Pinnacle. After that they could choose their own software. All choose Pinnacle because it had more options than Movie Maker, and didn't jam up on them with various types of file imports. It was also easier to learn and see what they were doing than Roxio.) Yes, other programs render in much less time. However, I've solved the jamming problem by making sure the computer does not go into any kind of energy save mode. If the final video turns out to be about 20 minutes (typical for me), there will be no problems. Longer than that, I just leave it overnight and hope for the best. Serious video makers will be happier with something else, but people wanting to make short videos will find it worth the price IF they know enough about computers not to need tech support. It's true, there is no longer tech support for older Pinnacle products like this one. That's why I'm giving it 4/5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Video Cassette to DVD?
Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2012
I wanted to convert several of my Video cassettes to DVD and this does a great job. There are several programs included in this suite that would enhance this package. They have a very short trail period that starts when you load them. This does not give you a chance to truly evaluated the additions before they demand that you pay for them.

The secret to this package is to ONLY load the main program to start with and then go back and load the add-on AFTER you understand what you have paid for and what it can do.

2.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't get it to run

While the product was shipped promptly, and was as-advertised, I tried loading it onto my new PC with no luck. Guess it's not backwards compatible.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Software ever!!!!

Don't be stupid like me and waste your time with Pinnacle. If there was ever a worse piece of software, I have yet to find it. If you like enjoy a two-day rendering process, lock-ups every few minutes, and unknown errors, this is for you, otherwise look elsewhere...I wish I had.

I only rated it a 1 because there is no "0"

3.0 out of 5 stars Computing power may be a cause
Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2005
I tried to create a full length DVD using the software. After rendering for 5 hours at 50%, it hanged. Suspecting that it could be due to computinng power, I attempted again. This time round I create only a 2mins clip, with some HFX and mp3 sound clip as background. Rendering took half an hour for the 2mins clip but the DVD was a success. I played on my DVD player in the living room and the quality of the video was commendable. Sharp, crisp and brilliant colours. I am going to power up my PC so that my full-length DVD can be a success just like the 2mins trial piece. Keeping my fingers crossed.

4.0 out of 5 stars My view
Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2009
This is a good product that I first started with a few years ago. I then up-graded it to a very expensive editing software called Pinnacle Liquid Pro. It has come time for me to install my liquid pro to a new computer but, since I had lost my Studio 9 install disc, and it has to be installed on the new computer first before Liquid pro will install, I had to find another Studio 9 install disc to do so. I am very thankful I was able to find this Studio 9 version, still sealed in the box, making it now possible for me to install the program I love so much.

Studio 9 is a good starter software for editing and creating videos, and works great for someone that is just a novice and has no need for the higher editing power. There are times, because of its simplicity, I will still pull it up for some quick and easy project that Studio 9 will handle with ease.
