Probably the best protection you can buy!

1. Keeps itself updated very often.
2. Has a feature that verifies files making them secure and unnecessary to scan. Scans are extremely fast.
3. Has many optimization features to keep your computer running well.
4. It is completely automatic. Set it and forget it.
5. The latest version of the product is 4.0. You get to upgrade free to every new version, although not automatically. However, they will notify you of a newer version's availability by email. Upgrading is very easy.
6. The one negative I have of version 3.0 has been corrected in 4.0. That is the identity safe. If you depend on it to remember logins (I do), you are then addicted to Norton. The new version will allow you to export your safe contents so you can put it on a pocket drive and carry it with you.
7. Norton support is really good if you have an issue. I bought this product because it was cheaper than paying for another year of protection. Current annual subscription rate renewal is $49.95. You can find a low cost version on the internet and you can enter the key code to renew and never even use the CD. The one problem I had was that I had time left on my current subscription and when I entered the key code I was given 365 days. I lost 22 days of my existing subscription. Support corrected this and added 30 days. I would wait to the last day of your current subscription to avoid this. Norton is pretty quick to recognize issues, so this may no longer exist as a problem.

Update: I was wrong about Norton recognizing this issue. I just renewed my subscription and I was 30 days early. I lost the 30 days and had to go through Norton Support to get it fixed. It wasn't so bad though, they gave me 60 days not 30. I bought V4 at a good price, and used the product key to renew my subscription and upgrade to V5.

Update: V5 fixed the optimization of Solid State Drives which do not need optimization, and generally, should not be optimized. 360 recognizes those drives and does not optimize them. It also fixed an error in the registry scan which I had to disable in V4. It would delete a necessary key to one of my programs. One problem remains and that is it does not function well in the 64 bit version of Internet Explorer.

Update: V5 does not count a Virtual PC installation against the 3 installation allowance. I am running Win7 Pro with a free install of WinXP provided by MS. It runs within Win7. MS recommends an antivirus program be installed in the Virtual PC even though you already have one installed in Win7.

Update: V6 has done away with keeping the Identity Safe on a pocket drive. It must have produced a lot of risk for them and their customers. I upgraded to V6 and expected my thumb drive Identity Safe to function normally, but I got a message only allowing me to copy the Identity Safe to the computer running Norton V6. The transfer process did not erase the Identity Safe on the thumb drive.

Additionally, there is a lot of marketing of new services that bothers me a lot.

Carrie Fisher, yes, THE Princess Leia of Star Wars fame, was once quoted as saying that George Lucas' direction of her and the rest of his actors in the first Star Wars movie mainly consisted of him repeatedly using the phrase "That's good... now do it again, but faster and more intense..." This is how I would describe my experience so far with the latest version of Norton 360. No, not particularly inspired is this new edition... there are few major changes. However, what it does it does well, faster than the previous version, and leaves the user with less work to do to keep their PCs safe. Keep shopping fellow shoppers; the price options for renewing Norton online are ridiculously expensive, when you can just keep buying more affordable retail versions (Thank you Amazon.com!) for the new key code. Yeah yeah May the Force Be With You....

It saved my sanity

Like everyone else I know, I should back up my work in a separate place but I don't. Or I do it once every few months.

I lost a file I had been working on for six months. We are talking thousands and thousands of hours of work. My computer said it was there but the file was empty. I am not kidding.

I took it to the repair people and literally cried my heart out. Nothing.

THEN I remembered something about this off-site back up Norton 360 has. I had seen it somewhere, either on the box or on something inside or maybe when I set it up. I didn't activate it, so I figured it was too late to do it for this document, but I checked anyway.

So I hunted around on Norton and mine said it was NOT up to date! Great!

Why?

Again, I thought it was because I had to activate the service and I hadn't. I am not a computer geek, as you can see.

I was wrong. I realized this after I clicked on whatever to get it to fix itself. Apparently---duh--you must be online when you finish your work and I had not been online for a few weeks with that particular computer.

So I clicked on the fix box and it updated and then I searched thru the files and a version of the document was there. It was not the most recent one, but I had only lost a few weeks of work.

This is apparently how it works: when you are working online, Norton just noses around and backs up your docs without you doing anything. It's a friendly little busybody. It's all automatic. You (or I) cannot screw it up so as long as you are online. The 360 will have a back up copy of your documents stored somewhere online---away from your computer.

I am reluctant to write this for fear Norton will take it out and sell it separately---they could. It SAVED ME!

I am getting something else in addition to this that is automatic. Because I write offline a lot and there is that problem. Any geek out there with an idea?

I purchased this product to replace my Norton internet security suite. it arrived a day late not Norton's fault in fact it was mine.

I have been a long time fan of Norton since windows 3.1. However my support is waning.

I am very upset, since when my subscription ran out it did not just refuse to update. The program came to a screeching halt. In the past, the only thing that happened When the subscription lapsed, was that it refused to update the av signatures. This time it turned off my firewall, and came to a complete stop leaving me open to malicious software and persons unknown.

This type of extortion by my own anti virus software leads me to consider switching to another program next time. I have not been a fan of any software that requires a yearly subscription to gain updates... and even less of one that ceases to work at all.

My recommendation is for you to try a different company.
