5.0 out of 5 stars Still a must-have to master your multimedia jungle

Even now with everybody proclaiming the end of the PC era and the rise of tablets, smartphones and all the other stuff in between - my PC still has its right to exist. My DSLR is not online yet, nor are all the photos and videos I took years ago.
It's still my PC (and my NAS) where I keep all my memories. Still I do have a fancy Smart TV and an iPad that I'm using more and more to watch videos or show the photos of my last vacation to friends.
I spent a lot of time trying different (free) tools and if you're willing to spend a lot of time, you'll probably find a couple of apps and services that help you here and there. I never got really happy though as everything was a lot of effort and complex to set up. Having used Nero to burn my first CDs and DVDs years ago, I came across their current Suite of products and gave it a shot.
While you still find the stuff you'd expect to find - support for each and every disc format to copy, transcode, rip and burn - they offer a lot for photos and videos as well. I'm very positively surprised how well the different applications are integrated with each other. The new MediaBrowser even allows to access photo albums, face tags etc from any other app, even the ones that are not from Nero - basically a Windows Explorer specifically for multimedia files - that allows for productivity across apps I've only seen on a Mac so far.
While I personally don't find the time to capture and edit a lot of video, it's amazing what you can do in just a couple of minutes with the video app.
I'm also happy to see that they continuously improve the products and update them on a regular basis - for example with new device profile for phones and tablets in the Recode app.
What I only found last night is that I can finally stop going back and forth between my PC and TV to copy photos to a thumb drive - only to find that they are in the wrong orientation. With Mediahome, I can just access them right from the TV or even send them there from the PC - that's pretty neat.
What I'm still missing a bit and wish they would add it, is a maps view for the photos I take on my phone. That's a feature I love on the device and would be happy to see that on the PC.
Overall I can only recommend the product - it's an amazing value at that price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than Nothing.

I got this because Windows 10 no longer includes Movie Maker and DVD Maker. This is not as good as what I had for free with Windows 7. The DVDs don't play on my Sony Blu-Ray or my friend's computer. And the options you get for creating the DVD menu screen are very limited and less attractive, but they do offer more choices if you want to pay for upgrades. There must be better software apps than this one. I wish I still had my old Windows 7 computer with the free Microsoft products but you can't get that stuff anymore.

1.0 out of 5 stars mediocre product, AWFUL company for support

Worked OK initially, but blu ray player would never launch and then when it finally did (after updates), tells you that to play blu-rays, you will need to pay extra. Also the video converters completely broke and Nero has not fixed it - just keep pushing out new versions, though.

2.0 out of 5 stars actually to bad!!

What a difference compared to Nero 7 Ultra I was used to. Had a lot of problems with the cover designer, I had to down load this seperately from the internet and communicating with my printer was another problem. Since I changed my system from Windows XP to Wndows 7 I didn't have a choice, actually to bad!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Basic CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Burner Software

Okay - Why do some reviewers believe they've purchased a full-blown brand-name multi-media package for less than $50? If you want to spend less than $50, use the open source products. But I digress. Now to review this product.

FORTES
1. Anyone who has used Nero 6.x in WinXP and have upgraded to Win8.1 will be pleased - This package provides the same tools as the older package, plus support for Blu-Ray and additional media codecs.

2. Unlike many cheap DVD burning sharewares, there is NO advertising that will intentionally load unless the installer permits it to load. Those who are totally oblivious to what they check, or does the lazy 'install all' method suffers the consequences of their actions. This all-to-often cited "problem" is too easily avoided folks - and Nero can offer to the consumer a lower price-point on its product by offering that option (Just don't check that box if you don't want Nero to advertise its other offerings).

3. Nero Burning ROM! - Without the overhead of all the multi-media syntax steps! Simply select ROM type, add files from the browser, and burn.

FOIBLES
None identified at this time from my perspective. Possible support issues? Maybe, but I'm not sure one should expect phone support for a $42 product. I'm fortunate enough to be blessed with some technical knowledge, wisdom, and know-how - Thank you, God!

I have no problem updating my rating whenever something new is discovered.

Recommended as is.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2017
I got this one instead of the Nero 2017 because I have windows vista and the newer one didn't support it. It is kind of complicated and most of it requires me to do updates and also requires internet for some of its functions so that sucks because we live in the country and have no internet besides the one that is very expensive. I guess I will have to find a place when I go to town with free Wi-Fi.

1.0 out of 5 stars WavePad Sound Editor Not Included For Free
Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2014
I bought this item for one reason only and that was to take advantage of the WavePad Sound Editor that is in the "Tools Section" Once installed the link takes you to purchase a key for $79.99. Very disappointed with Nero. I was very happy with a older version I have of this but was unable to install it into a windows 8 computer. I was looking forward to the upgrade and possible new features of the 2014 version, but all I got was taken by Nero.
