5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I wanted!

Hallmark Card Studio Deluxe 2010 is basically two programs in one -- the "Greeting Card and Projects" making half, and the "Event Calendar and Address Book" half. These can be run independently (although you need to install both), or you can run Card Studio and access the Event Calendar though that interface. Unlike most people who buy this, I was chiefly interested in the Event Calendar and Address Book since my old program no longer worked with Windows 7.

Here's a glance at some of the features of both halves of the program:

GREETING CARDS & PROJECTS:
This is the main section of Hallmark Card Studio Deluxe 2010. The main interface is simple and easy to use, to get you into the area you want quickly and without fuss. Under HELP on the top toolbar (not the round HELP button) you will find "Check for Updates" which I recommend you do to avoid the problems other reviews mentioned. I updated immediately, and I have not experienced any of those.

From the main interface, you can pick a card (or other project, such as a postcard, stickers, labels, calendar pages etc etc), customize it with your own photos and/or text, and then print it. If you elect to buy some
Hallmark Blank Greeting Cards Half-fold Matte Premium 20 Count  card stock, then it will look like a store bought Hallmark card, complete with the Hallmark logo on the back (Tip: you can toggle the logo on/off via TOOLS and add your own, if you want). A nice feature I like is the option to email your creation, complete with music and sounds. Hallmark Card Studio Deluxe 2010 converts your created card into a standard .avi for emailing. Tip: if Hallmark Card Studio Deluxe 2010 has trouble finding your email program, just save the .avi file somewhere, like on your desktop, then open your email program and attach your .avi card as you would a normal attachment.

EVENT CALENDAR & ADDRESS BOOK:
The Event Calendar is an electronic calendar for your computer, to which you can add your own events, be those birthdays or just things you want to remember. You can set reminders, which will pop up when you start your computer. You can make your events and reminders one time only, or repeat in a variety of ways. Example: If you have something you need to do monthly, or weekly, or even on the second Monday of every month, you can enter the event once, then elect to have the program remind you each month, with no further input required by you.

If you add all your family and friends to the Address Book, you can automatically track birthdays and special occasions via the Event Calendar and be reminded of those. The address book uses standard .csv format for import and export. Plus, if you use the "Projects" to make personalized calendar pages, you can have your personal events show on the calendar all year long!

CONCLUSION:
I have not used any other Hallmark Card Studio programs in the past, the 2010 edition is my first, and I have only scratched the surface of what this program can do. I have not experienced any of the technical issues that other reviewers list here (remember to update!). I really like this program a lot, and the main thing I wanted it for (Event Calendar and Address Book) works perfectly on my Windows 7 Pro x64 PC. Since I bought the 2010 edition long after the 2011 edition was out, I got a really really cheap price! Recommended!

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed

I've used American Greeting products for years - since my first pc in the mid nineties. Thought I'd give Hallmark a try since my older programs won't work right on Win. 7 and I couldn't find an American Greetings Program in my price range that would. This on is ok. Not half as much on it as I'm used to and the clip art is not as cute and AGs'. Not as many options to edit a 'ready made' calendar and I can't find one to create from scratch - and only 4 'crafty' items and the picture frames (2 - one vertical and one horizontal) do not print out like the picture....there's no back for standing it up like the picture shows. But I don't use a program like this alot anymore so it will do for now. Who knows......maybe American Greetings have cheapened theirs. The last one I bought was for Win 98 and worked in all my new pc's til Win. 7 came along.

I read reviews first before I purchased this item. It took a little rummaging around for me to figure out how to use it, no problem. Just like any other program, If you can use a computer, then walla, you can use this program. I made several items on it so far, and I really like how I can change and move things around. I like the print option too. It made out the page for me. I do not have to make more than one item, it copied everything out. Thanks for having the older version for Vista. ps...I do not know what is so bad with Vista. The only problem with any programs was windows mail.....never had an issue....

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing after having Card Studio for years with Windows XP

I cannot tell people how they have messed up a great piece of software that I used for years. I often would get a beautiful card, and move it by copying and pasting it to the PrintShop 12. Well, PrintShop 23.1 had to be put on my computer--I was very disappointed in that one too, because we don't get the disks for other, and more unique pictures. Anyway, I cannot move anything from the new Hallmark Card Studio over to PrintShop 23.1; all that transfers is a black square. I would never recommend either one of these two pieces of software. They are basically just trash. Don't buy this garbage!

4.0 out of 5 stars good program

On my first time around, I could not install the program. No matter what I tried it would only partially install and would then hang up. I finally gave up and sent it back for a replacement. The replacement arrived and I was able to install it without too much trouble. It seemed to work well although not as user friendly as I thought it should be. Takes a while to figure out all the features. We have been using Create-a-Card up until now which was much easier to use. The more that we use it, it is becoming easier. Hallmark gives you tons of clip art to use in this program so we should have many years of enjoyment while using this program. I would recommend it to anyone that is serious about creating their own personalized cards and doing other projects. It is pretty much unlimited to the things that you can create. We are enjoying it at this point.
