Try it you will like it!

I really enjoy my Painter Essentials 5. A real value for the price. I have used the full program Painter in the past and find even with its limitations (such as no masks, limited ways of selection from individual layers etc) PE5 it is a good program. Very stable and has many of the basic good brushes. (Would love to be able to add more ). I found auto painting works very well. The buyer should have a basic knowledge of using layers to use this program to its full potential. I found it very compatible to use with work done in Photoshop Elements. Good videos on YouTube, but we could use more with simple basic painting use of the program. A good starting program for painting and a good painting program that does not take a lot of hard drive space up on your laptop. Try it you will like it!

Good Software But Watch How You Start It

I had a problem getting this program to run, getting a missing .ddl file message and assumed that I needed Windows 10 to run it. But when I did the same thing happened. I found however that if I ran the program from its own directory or the Start Menu it would run. It would not run from the Desktop icon I created. The program unlike many others does not put an icon on the desktop.
If it doesn't run in one location for you, then try another like its own directory or the Start Menu not the Desktop.
The software is a pretty good value for the money and has a lot of capability. But like its parent Corel Painter its heavily orientated towards emulating traditional art. A part of me feels "why bother". If you want a traditional look then use traditional materials. I might be disposed towards that view because I'm used to working with them. Still you don't have to mix paints or clean palettes and brushes and if you don't absolutely have to have a piece of hand done original art, I guess it's OK. And you don't get that "computer done" look to the Art. This is a matter for the individual to decide.

Does what It says it can do. It works with Win 7. I was missing the scan photo feature in building backgrounds for illustrations that every later version of Corel Draw, Painter and Essentials lacks. This has sped up my illustration creation ability to also match my art style, instead of looking like the same f stop throughout the photograph, background.
I also like the tools that work well in the blending of color and creating better illustrations that is more like when I paint by hand on canvas or bristol board with oils or acrylics.

Purchased it in May 2015 and was told, because I called, that this download was forever mine as they do not send out CDs any longer. Hurricane hits west coast of Florida and I cannot retrieve Corel Essentials. Went to the software library where it failed to upload only a partial ergo another call to an agent who does not live in the U.S and whose speech is difficult to understand. Told me that my 2 year warranty ran out. Oops..nowhere was I told there was a 2 year warranty as it is a download and was told I could use it in perpetuity. Not so. There is nothing on the ad which Amazon has up that speaks of a 2 year warranty. Was told to return it???? How do you return a download. So now I am out $40 and lots of luck to you and yours.

Installs fine on Mac, can't even get Setup to work on Windows 7 Pro

I have used Corel Painter and Painter Essentials since 2008. My first experience was Painter Essentials 3 or 4 (bundled with my Wacom Intuos 3 graphics tablet). I used Painter X up until OSX Snow Leopard (10.6) ceased to run it (thank you for nothing Apple) and I upgraded my PC beyond 8GB of RAM. Since then, I've been Painter-less and itching to get back into using it again. While other programs come close, Painter has the best simulation of oil and other natural media.

I purchased Essentials 5 to get that back. Unfortunately, it won't even install on my Windows 7 Pro workstation. Windows installs go through a browser based setup and use Active X controls. Despite my best efforts to turn these off, and make myself vulnerable to malware while doing so, the Windows installation never gets beyond the browser window "Loading"

So I went and installed it on my late 2009 iMac 20 inch running OS 10.9.5 and it installed and ran just fine. Not that I mind that Mac, but its only got 4GB of RAM and a 128 MB ATI video card compared to the 16GB of RAM and 1GB NVIDIA on my workstation running Windows. This limits the images and workflow.

Lesson learned, don't bother with Corel products. They still don't know how to produce quality user friendly software. This will be my final Corel product ever. I will save my money for their competitors (take Smith Micro putting out Manga Studio for example, you can still Manga Studio 4 Windows or Mac, and it's the contemporary of Corel Painter X which is now a coaster on my desk collecting dust and coffee stains).

On the plus side, the brushes look very natural, and it does work. Just not where I needed it to.

I was sold a product that has a SN# in the package with a CD-Rom to load the product and using the SN# is will not load on my iMac late 2012 with all updates in system running macOS Sierra Version 10.12.5 and I get a drop down box with two options load trial or load as purchased to do and I clicked the Load and I get another box saying incorrect Serial number ...after repeated conversation with custormer service and waiting one day or more between each response and refusing to acknowledge anything I said I finally asked just to issue me a replacement that would work or a download that would work and all I get back was I am available 3-11 so I asked for a day and a time for open conversation and I get take a pic of the two selection Box....pretty self explanatory I think as I went more into detail on our conversations. I am 89 almost and am limited in doing some thing such as cut & paste and screen capture and have no desire to learn and my phone skill are limited after 30 years on Navy Carriers working jets. So usually order the DVD and update driver if necessary
