This Yeti 46 oz. bottle is a beautiful yellow color and has a chug cap that can be taken off for cleaning and also for filling the bottle with ice cubes. And yes, it is leakproof but that has to be a given, you do have to make sure that you fit the chug cap on the widemouth properly or there could be a chance of leakage from there. It feels like the bottom is definitely sturdier than Hydroflask, which needs an extra silicone sleeve to keep the base intact or it will dent even if you drop it once. This bottle has a stainless steel fortified base, and feels like it would not get dented at least if it wasn’t full. People claim that the insulation is better and it keeps ice longer than Hydro flask. I tested this out but did not find too much difference, but the Yeti did keep ice for a couple hours more.
So I mainly got this bottle because I keep running out of water when I take my 20 ounce Hydroflask with me. I wanted a bottle that had a size that would keep me hydrated for at least 6 to 8 hours. I bought a bigger Hydroflask bottle at first but I also wanted to try the Yeti because it is supposed to keep the ice longer. This bottle is 1 1/2 L so it holds plenty of water, but the problem is that it is so wide and becomes so heavy after I fill it, that I am not able to use it as much as I thought I would.
For one, it does not fit in my car cupholder so I cannot use it while driving, when I have only one hand free at most. I need a bottle I can fit into my cup holder, takeoff the lid with one hand and be able to chug some water. Although the chug cap Is really great idea, it does mean that I have to lift the bottle really high to be able to chug. When the bottle is really full that is almost an impossible task while driving. I have the same issue when I work. On zoom calls lifting this bottle with one hand and drinking is difficult and I would look like an idiot if I lifted the bottle with two hands and chugged on video!
I also tend to drink a lot of water at night, so I also tried using it by my bedside, but I had the same problem, when it was dark just locating this bottle, opening it, and chugging it while I was still half asleep, was impossible, it’s too heavy when full. I had to sit up in the bed to chug unlike the 20 oz. Hydroflask that I could just lower and sip with its widemouth. I suppose I could try opening the bottom part with the wider mouth, but I am afraid of getting water and ice all over my bed.
So it’s a beautiful bottle and I don’t want to give it up. I have already decorated it with my favorite stickers, but I wish I could use it more. But each time I have to select a bottle to take with me, I end up going with the 20 ounce size. I have also become so used to holding the rubber handle of Hydroflask caps that this plastic hard handle feels a little different and not as comfortable carrying around. I am still giving it four stars because it is a great and sturdy product that will last years, but I will not be getting as much use out of it as maybe some other folks who can handle large and heavy bottles. I do hope that this review helps you make a decision on choosing the right size for you. Yeti is a great brand and I would definitely buy more products.
