Okay, I haven’t tried them as 22LR snap-caps yet BUT I have never seen ANY snap-caps packaged like this: replacement rubber “caps” together with a proper little tool to remove worn out “caps” and all put together in a foam-bottom metal case with sliding top— I mean come on! Who does it like this? I realize their use of replaceable rubber caps is kinda their thing but these look great. I hope they live up to the expectation they’ve created in me. This is a company that wants my business!

If you have a firearm, you need to be familiar with it. Loading, unloading, trigger control, muzzle awareness and safe handling should be automatic. How do you get that way? Practice. But, practice in a SAFE manner. Using snap caps is one of those ways. These simulate "real" ammo, but cannot be fired, so you can practice all those skills mentioned above without the risk of actually loading a live round. These are indispensable training aids and you should have a set in every caliber you own.

Overall I found this set to be a really nice package. I'll be using these with my spouse as she gets more involved with shooting for fun as well as gaining familiarity with her firearm.

Each dummy round weights about 8 grams. This is close in weight to a live round that weighs about 11 grams. Size of the dummy rounds is very similar to a live round. I did some testing with a magazine and firearm and had no difficulty loading the magazine to capacity, chambering a dummy round, test firing on the dummy, and extracting the dummy. I believe these dummy rounds would work very well for random insertion in magazines with live rounds to simulate failures to fire.

I was about to deduct 1 star for lack of identification of their 9mm caliber on each of the dummy rounds. Upon very close inspection (see photo) I did find the plastic "bullet" inserts do have 9mm molded into the plastic. I think I may grab an extra fine Sharpie marker and see if I can fill the 9mm size indicator with black ink to make it stand out with greater contrast.

One thing to note is the high visibility orange plastic "bullets" thread into the metal base of the dummy cartridge. I think it's worth making sure all inserts are screwed down tight to their bases at each use. While I didn't experience loosening of the orange bullet tips in my usage so far, it is something I'll keep an eye on with extended usage.

The kit includes replacement "primer" inserts that take the force of the firing pin or striker when simulating the firing sequence. I'm assuming the provided tool is used to remove the worn primer pocket insert so a fresh pre-cut insert can be added. I worked with one dummy round through many firing cycles and did not see significant primer insert wear or distortion. The original set of inserts should last a long time.

I really like the included case that has plenty of room of all 12 dummy rounds and the primer pocket maintenance kit. The case labeling makes it very easy to see what's in the box without opening it. Keeping everything together in a securely latched case that can ride in my range bag is also appreciated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nicely machined, .410 snap caps that are correctly sized
Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2025
A dozen orange, nicely machined, .410 snap caps were included in this request. While there may be orange colored live rounds out there, I have not seen them. The appearance of the snap caps is distinctly different from the 2½-inch 000 .410 rounds that I use (photo). Not only do these snap caps differ in color, they are also only 2-inch shells, the bullet end is open, and the “primer” is a rubber pad. In part because of the snap cap’s size and the fact that the snap caps, while weighted, do not actually have a load, weigh only about half of my live 000 .410 rounds. The .410 snap caps are true to size in diameter but shorter. They fit perfectly in the cylinder chambers (photo) and did not interfere with the cylinder advancing after every pull of the trigger. The spare rubber pads and what I believe is a small metal tool for removing the old pads were nice additions.

    PROs:
    • The snap caps are nicely machined, realistic in size for a 2-inch .410 shotgun shell, and probably realistic in weight depending on the length and load of a live round.
    • The orange color, open end, and rubber pad where the primer would go clearly indicates these are snap caps and not live rounds.
    • The snap caps are shipped with spare rubber pads and a removal tool.
    • The snap caps do not interfere with the operation of the double action, six-shot revolver (S&W Governor®).

    CONs:
    • None.
