5.0 out of 5 stars No more stinky water!!

I bought a new house on a well, with a softner. The softner was giving us trouble, so we had a company come out and they got it all working correctly. But my hot water was still egg smelly and yellowish. I read about the rod in my water tank might be the problem and decided to give it a try. The old rod was difficult to remove, we had to borrow an air rachet from a neighbor and was careful to not let the tank move while loosening it. I couldn't believe how much nasty build up of scaling was already on the old rod! My house is brand new! Putting in the new rod was super easy and it's plugged in. Love the light on the plug so I always know it's working. Best part is our smelly, yellowish water was gone within a few hours. Super great investment for our home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!

Update: I said in my original review the water smell was almost gone. I wanted to come back to say the smell in the water is COMPLETELY gone! Great product!

After installing a very expensive water system, everything was going great until the hot water started to stink. The cold water was fine, so we couldn’t figure it out. I started doing some digging about this issue and came across your product. It had 6000 reviews and most of them were great. So I quickly ordered one we installed it and in two hours the smell was almost gone. It was just wonderful. Really easy to install once we got the original rod out. Actually, that was the worst part of the job. Would 100% recommend this for anyone having the same issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars It actually worked!

I have well water and it stunk real bad when it came out of the hot water tank. I tried replacing the hot water tank, the water softener, and upgraded to an aluminum zinc anode rod. Nothing seemed to work to get rid of the sulfur smell. I was skeptical that this rod would work but after reading the reviews, I decided to give it a chance. The installation was rather easy and within three hours of installing it, the hot water barely smelled anymore. The next morning there was no smell at all. I was shocked that it actually worked and has stayed working now for a couple weeks. Well worth the cost.

This product is excellent. I have very hard well water and corrosion is a problem even with a water treatment system. They claimed this would make my water better in 24 hours--they were right, but it happened a lot quicker!! I noticed a difference almost immediately.

My water smells better, feels better, our skin is better too! The laundry has improved. And the service is extremely good! I highly recommend this. I wouldn't use anything else.

Very easy to install with great instructions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked well for me

After 6 years my hot water developed a bad rotten-egg smell. I found that turning up the temperature of the water to the hottest setting got rid of the smell, but I didn't like the scalding water. After doing a lot of internet research, I removed my original anode rod (there wasn't much left of it) and replaced it with a zinc-aluminum one. At the same time, I disinfected the entire system with hydrogen peroxide, which I let sit in the heater and pipes for four hours. At first I thought this had fixed my problem, but after two weeks the smell came back. I tried disinfecting again, this time with bleach, but again the smell returned. So I bought this powered anode rod. Amazingly, only a few hours after installing it, the smell was noticeably reduced, and by the next morning, it was completely gone. It has now been over three weeks and still no trace of the old smell. This thing works.
A few notes about the installation, which others have mentioned. If you have never removed an old anode rod, read up on it first. Also understand that it can be very tight. You will need a 1 1/16" socket. Do not use a 12-point socket. A six-point is better and an impact socket is best. They have deeper notches that are less likely to slip on the tight bolt head. I also used an 18-inch breaker bar for more leverage. This worked well for me and the old rod came out easily. Sometimes it can be tougher.
The instructions for the powered rod are very good. The socket that removes the old rod is too small for the new one, which is 1 3/16" or 31mm. If you have a fairly large adjustable wrench, this will work well because the powered rod is not recessed, the bolt head sticks up a couple of inches. Use plumber's tape on the threads. The power connection has two leads, one which slides onto the terminal on the top of the rod and the other needs to contact some metal part of the heater itself. Just unscrew one of the small cover screws on the heater and attach the wire there. Make sure that none of your wires is near a hot water pipe or the flue of a gas heater. Then just plug it in. If the green light comes on, you're good to go. This product worked so well that my only complaint is that the green light seems way too bright. I put a couple of layers of masking tape over it and it's still bright. Great product.
