I made this purchase in order to make a "Cheese Cave" for (you guessed it) making and aging cheese at home. It works as advertised, is uncomplicated, easy to read and set. I can imagine that there are many possible applications. All the cords and wiring were long enough (even too long) for my particular application. It has maintained the temperature range that I have set now for several weeks and matches the food grade thermometer I installed in the fridge.

I can imagine that there are many possible applications. All the cords and wiring were long enough (even too long) for my particular application. It has maintained the temperature range that I have set now for several weeks and matches the food grade thermometer I installed in the fridge.

I had the cold water inlet pipe to my water heater freeze a few years back when we had an extended cold spell. Luckily there was no damage. We had another cold spell coming where temps would be below freezing for 7 days straight and temps in the teens or lower at night during a time I was going to be in Florida. I searched for something to prevent the pip freezing again found and ordered this. I taped the temperature probe to the cold water inlet pipe. I hooked up a space heater to the heat side and aimed it at the cold water pipe. I tested it at various temps to make sure it would kick on when the temperature hit the setpoint and everything worked great. For the cold period I set the Inkbird to kick on heat if the pipe got below 36 degrees based on testing of the groundwater & pipe temp over several days. Probably a bit over cautious but I didn't want to risk a busted pipe. I left for Florida (2 weeks) with this setup in place and no frozen or busted pipes. My son on the other hand installs fire suppression sprinkler systems in commercial buildings. He and his company were working round the clock to repair damage done by frozen pipes in their customers buildings. Very happy with this item and the ease of setting it up.

This worked great converting a freezer to beverage fridge. The compressor delay is a great feature to avoid compressor damage from premature restart after a door opening. I set the hot temp delta to max to avoid hearing the unused heater relay click on. The alarm is a great feature as well. The only thing I would like to add it a clock/calendar so I could coast during my 3 hours of expensive electricity 5 days a week. It seems to be reading a tiny bit warm but with the calibration offset that is not an issue. I just tweaked the fridge temp up a bit one degree F at a time until ice stopped forming. I could have calibrated the probe in ice water first but did not think of it.

I drilled a 1/4 inch hold though the back center of the fridge. The probe is about 0.22" diameter.

Pros
1, it works.
2, it is highly configurable, you can set it to 75 and tell it to only kick in when it hits 70, then it will kick on and heat it back up to 75. Or you can configure it to where it kicks on at 74 and maintains a 1 degree temp...... Perfection.
3. CHEAP in comparison to most other products.

Cons Or Features nice to have.
1. WIFI, would be sick if I could wirelessly control this unit.
2. Would love to SCHEDULE. but cant.
3. Lastly, If power is ever cut off for any reason for a period of time, the settings will be reset. Battery backup for the config and settings would be nice. I cant put this unit on a battery backup power supply tho as I am powering a heater and no residential grade UPS/Battery backup would cause failure and if not fire.

Settings are highly customizable, it’s not that expensive, and provides great protection for your aquarium heater (or whatever you are buying it for).

I had an older freezer that could be set to a refrigerator. However, the problem was, the refrigerator setting would either be too cold (freezing temps) or too warm (temperature over 40F). It was near impossible to get it to somewhere in between.

Thankfully, I was able to solve that issue by turning it to the freezer setting and adding this temperature controller to it. I had previously tried using smart plugs/wireless temperature sensors to trigger when to turn the compressor on/off but that had a flaw in that sometimes the signal from the temperature sensor is too weak or it runs out of battery from the cold temps and causes the automation to halt. Basically when there's more parts to the system, there will be more points of failure. This inkbird was simple to set up. I was up and running 10 min after opening up the package and reading the instructions.

It's been rock solid since. You can have this set a specific temperature and it will keep things at that temperature within X degrees (you're also able to set what this X is). An additional bonus is the current temp is always displayed on the device so I can always take a quick glance to know if things are being kept at a safe temperature.

Directions were a little vague for a first timer but finally figured it out. Works as advertised we will see how long it will last. The thermostat went bad and couldn’t find a suitable replacement so I decided to try this.
