About this item

PREMIUM QUALITY: PowerBear pipe heating cable feature with 10W/FT and 120V, can heat up rapidly. Its tough modified polyolefin inner insulation retains heat, while the weather-resistant TPE outer sheath ensures durability. This IP67 waterproof and UL certified cable guarantees electrical and fire safety. Don't risk frozen pipes this winter.
BUILT-IN THERMOSTAT & SELF-REGULATING: Our cable comes equipped with a built-in thermostat for precise temperature control. It activates at 37°F/3°C to prevent freezing and turns off at 55°F/13°C to save energy efficiently.
VERSATILE APPLICATION: This adjustable self regulating heat tape provides freeze protection for both plastic and metal pipes. Easily install it around water lines, RV hoses, drain pipes, and more to maintain an efficient plumbing system in harsh, cold climates.
EASY INSTALLATION: Our pre-assembled heat tape is incredibly easy to install. Simply wrap it around pipes or position it on the roof. Plug in the power cord to activate the heating element and protect against freezing temperatures. When insulation is no longer required, unplug it with ease. No complicated steps involved! For pre-installation testing, ensure the temperature is below 32°F (0°C).
IDEAL LENGTH: The 30ft electric heat tape cable includes a 3ft power cord, enabling you to provide freeze protection for pipes located far from outlets, such as those running underground or along exterior walls. With 30 feet of cable, you can tackle various applications in your daily life. Give your plumbing system a protective winter suit for optimal efficiency.

5.0 out of 5 stars works great so far

did not quite finish wrapping around/taping to pipes; came back next morning when temperature was down; found the heat tape working; it comes on at few degrees higher than freezing; the wire heating made it easier , more pliable to wrap

I ended up returning it... i didnt understand its application.

RV, shore water hydrant, run the tape up and down the pipe, elec tape the heat tape in place, wrap in insulation batting, hold batting in place with duct tape. Cover in pladtic garbage bag, held in place by bungie cord.

I needed about 6ft... 30ft prob would have melted the hydrant. Ha.

Arrived on time, returned it unopened.

Ended up returning because needed for a specific purpose but realized there wasn't enough exposed pipe so couldn't use it, but I bought because I had several people recommend.

I got what I was expecting. Too soon to tell how it works as I am well above freezing for a few more weeks.

This item is supposed to be water proof, however as soon as it gets wet it trips the GFCI outlet.

4.0 out of 5 stars High inrush current before settling to rated 10w/ft. Shielded and supple cable wraps around pipes.

Some high temperature tape is included for securing this to a pipe before further insulating to direct the heat inward and keep pipes thawed.
Since freezing temperatures haven't yet reached this part of Alaska, I put this in the freezer for a bit to bring the sensor thermostat down to temperature and test it before installation. After the cord came back up to room temperature, I could hear the inline thermostat click as it sensed non-freezing temperatures and disconnected power to the heating cable.
The power consumption of the cable rose to unexpected levels until it warmed up and settled on its claimed 10w/ft. Initially it almost used 40w/ft, and the warmth was readily apparent from feeling the cable. This is definitely something to consider when deciding where to plug this in, as this unexpected power consumption surge could trip a breaker or inverter if not accounted and planned for, leaving pipes unprotected and susceptible to freezing. Changing to a slow-blow or High Magnetic (HM) breaker, or plugging into a lightly loaded circuit might help. The wattage is not self-regulating and hence the significant start-up inrush surge. Since this listing only currently sells up to 12' lengths, it probably won't be an issue even if two or three are used on one circuit. Multiple heat tapes will probably cycle at staggered times and won't simultaneously tax the breaker with their surge ..... until they do and leave water pipes unheated. Something to consider though with lower cost heating strips lacking power regulation.
The indicator light on the male 3-prong plug is a handy feature to tell at a distance if the cable is receiving electricity, but it doesn't indicate the state of heating or standby, nor is there a light at the far end of the strip like some more expensive cords.
The sheath is supple and resists slippage and is easy to wrap pipes with. It is waterproof and looks durable, especially after insulation is wrapped around it to keep in the heat. The ground shield around the resistive conductors should help to trip a GFCI outlet or the breaker if the cord is damaged and reduce EM noise in nearby electronics.

This heating strip works well and has a thermostat to save power when not needed, but the 4x inrush current was unexpectedly high. The claims for automatic thermal regulation seem a little overstated as well for a standard non-adjustable on/off thermostat. It's a good cable for the price, and at 10w/ft is on the more powerful end of typical heat tapes.
