    We occasionaly get seriously freezing temps in Seattle. Many older homes are ill prepared.
    Those styrofoam caps to cover outdoor faucets offer little protection (at best). I bought 2 of these last Winter. Connected a lighted on/of switch these performed perfectly. No need to leave the faucets dripping to avoid freezing, no freezing of exterior faucets.

    I live in East Texas where we don’t get a lot of prolonged cold weather and I have 2 outdoor faucets that are below the surface so I can’t just let them drip or trickle. I realize that these are supposed to be taped to a pipe but I loosely wrap them around the faucet and put an old towel in the hole and then cover it with a small galvanized bucket and place a brick on it and it seems to work. It may just be that I have them insulated well enough with the towel that it protects them from freezing but I’m gonna say that these certainly don’t hurt anything. I bought two of them last year and they seemed to work but couldn’t remember where I had put them so I bought two more this year. Maybe I’ll find them this summer but I’ll definitely put these up so I’ll know where they are next winter.

    It self regulates, it does not. Ok for pvc. Do not use on pvc. Indoor or out. Do not use indoors ( note pup on his bed with heater underneath). It caught fire ! - see the other guys pics. You get the idea, like most other off shore products hard to get exact details. After reading thru many bought 3 different brands thinking I would just test them myself. This one works, or at least it gets warm. Let's see, it does not self regulate that is the temperature does not decrement or increment based on pipe temp. Below the thermoswitch ( the plastic coated bump) fixed temp point it goes on and it heats to a fixed temp. Above that point it turns off. Did not catch fire, but I did not overheat it, kink it, overlap it, compress it or otherwise stress it. You can use with pvc pipe IF it will always be filled with H20 and you first wrap it with aluminum foil. If you spiral it under your dog's bed it might put out sufficient heat to get thru pillow/blanket but you will have to chill the thermoswitch down below 50 and keep it there. My dog sniffed it, walked away and crawled into my bed. I would love to tell you about the other 2, but they do not work. Build quality is: provably good for a season - sealed with dual wall heat shrink tube, the type with hot melt adhesive lining.

    Every winter I had a problem in one supply pipe because the plumber put it in an outside wall. This heat tape solved the problem. Excellent product! Just be sure to keep the temp sensor level and it does the job!

    I installed this product correctly, following all of the manufacturers instructions. The cable was not overlapping and was more than 13mm away from any "combustible" surface, which is the wood siding in this instance. Within five hours of installation and use, it caught fire and spread to the exterior of our home. We smelled smoke coming under the laundry room door, and opened the door to find the room, which is on the interior wall of where the cable was installed, completely filled with this smoke. We immediately extinguished the fire, but the product had already done damage to our homes exterior, ruined the plumbing into the wall, and filled our house with toxic smoke from burning plastic and insulation.

    Avoid this product at all costs.

    After contacting Amazon and waiting on hold multiple times, they dropped my call twice while "I was being connected to the right customer service team"

    I bought these because we had a winter storm coming. Kept the water above freezing for 5 straight days by wrapping around the pipes. Would buy again if i needed to. But longer than you think you need!

    This heat cable worked great to keep a gutter that has problems with ice build up from freezing during the winter. Worked well easy to use. Caution this cable gets very hot.
