5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect and worth the money

My only negative is that the install instructions are hard to follow so look up a good YouTube video and there are a few on this same product then match the wire colors to what they have on the video. This was an easy 10 minute fix that got the unit back up and running after I had replaced the fan motor. We have 7 of these unit and I would get one of these again, sad that we didn't find it earlier since we had shut the unit down about a year ago and closed off the room in the building. We are happy to have the heat and cooling back on now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Installed quickly and solved my startup issues on a 15 year-old 3Ton Goodman/Amana unit
Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2022
Easy to install and does the job.
For the past couple years my outside condenser unit has been having a hard time starting when the weather gets hot, around 100-110F. When activated, the compressor buzzes/hums and just wont start. It will try many times until it finally will start but may take 5 or minutes buzzing on/off. When it is buzzing, I can see the lights dim a little in some rooms of the house so I know the circuits are being strained. This has been getting progressively worse over the past year so I decided to buy this hard-start-kit and finally address the issue.

Following the instructions and installing was simple enough. Make sure to pull the shunt to avoid a dangerous situation before you start! I did need to add a couple sheetmetal screws (Tapcon) to hold the capacitor and relay inside the wiring cavity. Plan out where everything will go before you start. No need to cut or splice cables if the existing "fast-on" spade connectors are in good shape. I was very pleased with the results. Now that the kit is installed, the compressor starts-up immediately, even on the hottest summer day!

My thanks to the manufacturer and Amazon for providing this inexpensive and easy solution.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great item to have in your A/C spares kit
Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2024
This is a great item to have in your “Spares” kit, for your A/C unit. Very simple to Mount and install. It helps take a lot of the load on the start up current required for your A/C compressor, extending it’s life, and the life of the Run Capacitor on your A/C unit.
    Cheap “insurance” during A/C season.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tames HVAC startup surge on solar power inverter. Install guides are on Youtube, item works well.
Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2023
I installed this CSR-U1 "hard start" compressor relay-capacitor to complement a new install of an EG4 off-grid solar power inverter. Before the CSR-U1 was installed, my new-ish 2-ton HVAC heat pump compressor would draw a startup surge of ~59A from the 240VAC split phase grid supply. That flirts with the maximum of my EG4 inverter's rated surge tolerance. After the CSR-U1 install, the startup surge dropped to 32A, or 27A less. Nice! Good to know that it'll also extend the compressor's working life. A bonus is that the HVAC runs more quietly. $18 well spent. Will update on longer-term performance.

1.0 out of 5 stars Capacitor instantly failed (other reviews indicate this also)
Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2024
For those who are electricians or homeowners with reasonable electrical experience, this is a very straight-forward product to install.
    3 pictures:
    - general installation: easy to install with two screws. Nice and neat
    - connection to capacitor: You can easily see the FAN and HERM, the C is lower right. Two connections: Red to Common-C, Stripped to HERM
    - connection to T-side (not line side) common: black wire terminal, not red
You can clearly see all 3 connections I made.
When the system was turned on, the relay could be heard to operate, but the capacitor failed in a poof of smoke instantly.
I would welcome feedback from the manufacturer, but otherwise I highly recommend against this product. Very disappointing low quality.

My compressor was noisy at startup with an inrush current of 20A. The hard start lessened the noise and brought the inrush current down to 5.5A.

1.0 out of 5 stars CSR-U1 hard start, defective, started smoking after installation
Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2024
I did some research comparing the SPP5 and this CSR-U1 hard start kit. I decided to go with the more expensive option that included a separate relay unit. However, after just a few minutes, it started smoking. I immediately shut off the system, removed the unit, and found it was defective with melted plastic. Since it was damaged post-installation, I didn’t feel right returning it. I ended up buying the SPP5, and it's working perfectly. I'm really glad I made the switch, especially with the heatwave we had this past week.
