1. This product can be useful for a Toddler, but it needs to be broken in. Took approx. an hour or two to break in. Temperature probably has an influence since the stiffness in moving the small colored spheres is caused by a foam core. Our downstairs is usually between 79 ~ 77 during summer, mid-east coast state in a major city close to NY.

2. Toddlers will need guidance. With my 2y 5m old kid, I had to solve then asked the following questions of two adjacent colors near the white (empty) ring...let's say they are red and orange...

Red sphere & ring matching:

* what color is the ball? Response: red
* what color is the circle? Response: red

Orange sphere and ring:

* what color is the ball? Response: orange
* what color is the circle? Response: orange

Next I swapped them. Then asked that same questions, got the correct answers. Then asked...

Where does the red ball go? Response: pointed to the red ring with orange sphere now in it

So at this point, with some questions I confirmed that my kid can...

* differentiate between sphere and ring color
* knows that the sphere and ring should correspond in color

Next steps required some minimal intervention or guidance and, importantly, assisted practice...

* asked my kid to move the red ball into the white circle (empty hole by default)

* he struggled trying to use his fingers...but then was able to manipulate the ball with the thumb opposite the direction the sphere needed to move on their own, with a little coaxing. Then got it to the point where the sphere was in between holes, but going in the correct direction. My coaxing was telling them to keep pushing, and that they could do it. We did this a few times just going back and forth between the same two rings.

* This was the biggest challenge for us, as my kid kept forgetting to use thumbs (instead of fingers) and wasn't understanding they needed to use the thumb opposite the direction to move the sphere

We didn't get to work much on it at this point. It was a fairly lengthy concentration session for an almost 2.5 year old...but we did make concrete progress. I have a puzzle for myself as well, so my kid can see me play with it and become curious / wanton of it to try them self. At that point I will monitor, remind, assist and coax as needed to get them to do become self sufficient in exploring the puzzle.

IMO it's a good buy if you are willing to put the effort in.

It can be scaled to ask mathy questions later (or now if the recipient is old enough) if the foam doesn't give out totally. Like "What is the minimal amount of moves to get all balls to their opposite holes?", etc

I ordered this as a gift for my granddaughter. When it arrived my first reaction was - It's smaller than I thought it was. It's a bit smaller than a baseball, but in the end, it really is the perfect size. I wouldn't want it any bigger. Object is to get the color of the balls inside the sphere to match the colors of the rings on the sphere. You move things one ball at a time. You push a ball in with your finger tip and push it towards an adjacent empty hole. It will pop into that hole with what I would call a pretty satisfying feeling lol. Watch the video to see how to manipulate it easily. I like it - this is a great stocking stuffer.

I was extremely disappointed in the size.

I ordered this thinking it would be a great way to get my 2.5 year old to work on his fine motor skills, all while practicing color matching etc., However, the balls are incredibly difficult to maneuver even for myself as an adult. I regret making this purchase. I will either regift or give away......

This puzzle is so fun. I bought it for my hubby’s birthday because he enjoys puzzles. Then my daughter tried it and was hooked, so I purchased one for her too. She’s a master at it and is trying to break records. Plus it kept her busy during five hours of watching her sister play in a bball tournament! Note the clicking can be a little annoying, but you get used to it ????????
