5.0 out of 5 stars Great beginner bike
Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2024
Both of our girls used this bike and it held up well. They rode this bike from 2 years old up to 4 years and is a perfect fit for younger children. The bike is great for learning to ride and the training wheels do not affect the effort required to move this bike, it operates very smoothly. It is comfortable enough for them to go for long bike rides with the family in a walk and look great while doing it. The tires offer plenty of traction and we haven’t had to replace them over the 5 years we have owned the bike. Great first bike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bike

We got this one for our granddaughter's fifth birthday and it was a hit. It was super easy to assemble and the design and sturdiness of the bike was excellent. Schwinn has always been a good name for bikes so I felt this was a good choice for her first two wheeler. She had an easy time riding and loved it. In fact, it was such a hit that we bought a second one for her sister who will be turning 3 this month. She's tall for her age and loved riding her sister's bike. She chose a different color and is really happy with it. Only downside is the lack of a kick stand which we will need once the training wheels come off. It would be nice to have a matching stand rather than the chrome color that can be purchased separately. The basket is also a bit flimsy and could break after several falls once the training wheels come off and the bike hits the ground. These are all minor inconveniences as the overall quality of the bike seems really good. It's only our first month so we'll have to see how the two bikes hold up after this summer.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE THE SELLER!!!

The bicycle itself is great, easy assembly with minimal tools required just make sure you have metric Allen keys and wrenches. That being said do not no matter what you do buy from a seller calling themselves “Sams Club Store Distributer” they sent me a bike that had been used and returned in a box with no packing or wrapping to protect it, it was a complete piece of garbage when it arrived. Thanks to the Amazon customer service dept it was refunded and a new one was received in two days but not from the seller I mentioned, Amazon made good on their commitments to quality and adjusted the price difference. The seller responded to my review of them with lies about how it was lost in transit and that they refunded me, uh no. Then they went on to say I should remove my review as it would hurt their business, again no they hurt their own business the review stays and now is doubled up. After some research they have nothing to do with the actual Sam’s Club.

4.0 out of 5 stars As a first bike - your daughter is probably going to love it

I would only consider this as a first bike, so you can find out whether or not your child likes biking.

The assembly of the 18 size was easy and I think you must add a bell and silly hanging things to handles so the look is complete.
I also appreciate the existence of hand brakes, so you can teach good habits. Now the bad thing is, that complaints in other reviews are valid.
It is rather tough to pedal (so you might want to help out with the initial push uphill to save childs knees while kid is building strength). The helping wheels keep getting loose, so just retighten them before the ride. I spent a lot of time trying to adjust the front brake and it is just not happening (either not releasing the pad or not applying enough power to actually engage the brake). The footstep is useless if you have helping wheels and so on.
However, it has a stellar look, has a basket to put water and a toy and is totally rideable. Just don`t expect it to be a high performance machine :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Took just 1 hour to learn how to ride on this bike!

I was about to purchase a Guardian bike when a friend mentioned this Schwinn Koen model. I'm glad I went with this one as my kid was riding without training wheels in just an hour! Considering kids grow so fast, I knew this bike would last only 1-2 years, so this was definitely a great option for an inexpensive starter bike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read instructions carefully, but bike itself works well
Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2021
Pros: Assembly was manageable with the right tools and lots of re-reading. All parts arrived with bikes as anticipated. Bike is solid, and has a simple adjustable seat. All the bolts needed came pre-attached, some which had to be removed to put various parts on the bike, but it helped knowing which bolts belonged where. Bike is easy to ride, peddles work well, steers good. Wheels came fully inflated.

Cons: Directions were a bit confusing because it was for a few styles of the same bike. For example, two different types of training wheel, which are not attached the same way on the instructions. Made putting the bike together confusing because I had to keep checking to figure out which bike I had, as that was not clear.

Overall, happy with the bike, glad it's fully put together now. Felt the price was a bit much, but was happy to find a 18 inch bike with training wheels.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Bike for Smaller Kids
Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2020
Reading some of these reviews had me a bit concerned. I believe that many are written by individuals expecting the bike to arrive ready to ride. This is not the case.

You should avoid making this purchase if you are not mechanically inclined. With that said, assembly is not difficult. This will include adjusting the hand brakes. These are the items usually already done for you when purchasing from a bike shop.

A lot of reviews mention issues with the crank bearings failing. I believe this is caused either by they way the bike is shipped or by kids dropping the bike on its side too frequently after removing the training wheels. That is because the crank housing is plastic. It’s the only thing that is lacking of typical Schwinn quality. When the bike arrived at my house, it was clearly marked not to place the package on its side. The delivery person did so anyway.

Before I even pulled it out of the box, I checked to make sure it was not damaged and that there were no missing parts. Good to go!

This is a very nice kid’s bike and my son loves it. The bike is fairly lite for having a steel frame. If your kids requires an 18 inch model or smaller, I would recommend it. If you are looking for a 20 inch model, I would consider another model or brand, especially if your kid is an aggressive rider.

Good luck!
