I got this for my god daughter's birthday. To complete her barbie collection. She hadn't had a Ken barbie. She said he's handsome. Lol. It's a great gift, comes with cute accessories, and Ken's quality is great.

Poor Ken always ends up being the one to go to the beach. I wanted a Ken doll that didn't look like he was on his way to sunbathe or surf. After searching, I found this Ken doll set that matched my criteria. Ken is slightly taller than Barbie standing at 12" tall. He is slim with light skin, blue eyes and dark blonde hair styled in the classic plastic Ken fashion. He comes dressed in pants, shirt and loafers. The pants have the appearance of being distressed denim however, they are just screen printed cotton pants that slip over the doll. The top features a plaid print and closes at the front with velcro. The plastic white loafers easily slip onto the doll's feet. Additionally, he comes with accessories like an ice chest, binoculars, map, water bottle, chip bag and sunglasses, all made of plastic except for the map which is made from cardstock.

One drawback of the Ken set was its packaging. While Barbie dolls are usually fastened to the box with clear rubber bands for a neat display, Ken was also attached with two plastic tags at the back of his head. Unfortunately, removing him from the packaging resulted in two small holes in his head. There was no way to get around removing him from the box without causing these holes. This doll was held securely in place with rubber bands so the additional plastic tags were unnecessary and caused damage to an otherwise perfect doll.

Recently I was babysitting our granddaughter and she was playing with all her Barbie stuff. Seemed like she had everything but alas, no Ken. And she said that she was sad that she didn't have a Ken doll. Her 6th birthday was a few weeks away and I had an idea for a great birthday present for her, lol. Ordered Ken doll through Amazon at a good price and received it in time for her birthday. She was very thrilled to get a Ken doll as she stated that she wanted one for a long time (can't believe her parents never got her one). Family members highly praised me for coming up with a great birthday present idea.

Why are all the Barbies doctors, pilots, etc while the Kens here are beach bums etc? For a boy whose sister has Dr Barbie I got this one because at least he shows active agency to do something with his map and binoculars. What are we trying to teach the children of America about manhood?

Anyway, so far this Ken is your best bet on Amazon. Will look now for some interesting career wear a la carte.
