Being the organizer and leader of a large social bicycle club here in Fort Lauderdale with over 1750 members, over 100 official tours and growing daily, the safety, health and well-being of our riders is always priority one. The same goes for our mounts as well. It is discussed before every slow roll. And one thing all my members know about me is that I love customization and personalization. And if it serves both safety and customization then roll on I say! My local bike shop Cycling Forza in Coral Springs could tell you how much they make from our patronage. We spend tons on toys and accessories that just make the rides more fun, more enjoyable, more convenient. And not just for technical stuff but for lots of other fun stuff as well, gadgets, toys and accessories are always welcome. I like to gift away some small safety item to our new members at the beginning of each slow roll, most often it will be a safety whistle to wear while riding. Sometimes the gifting goes to another level. It might be a lighting kit, a set of pedals or grips, locking kits, occasionally even a pair of gloves or a helmet. I encourage my members to keep their mounts very well maintained in order to not get left behind (in reality we would never let anyone get left behind). Anything that keeps you out of danger and improves the experience of riding is for us. This RETROSPEC SCOUT Kids Bike Helmet could save the ride if one of our youngest slow rollers were to take a tumble. There may be scraped elbows or bruised knees but their little noggins would be well protected. This is just the same as any other well known of the name brands out there. Retrospec has lots of other accessories and I have had good luck with them so far. This was absolutely sized for small heads though. Sometimes a petite lady might get away with wearing these but not here. This is made specifically for children. So it will make an awesome gift for a lucky club members kid. And as always remember:

This helmet in pink fits our 4 year old very well and looks very nice to boot. It seems to be very well made and provides a nice peace of mind when she is using her bikes and scooters. Highly recommended as cheap insurance to keep little ones safe while playing.

Helmet Itself Seems Okay, Sizing Mysteries, Page Info All Over The Place, Almost Didn't Get It

The page info for this helmet was all over the place regarding sizing at the time of my order. As of my review date, it's still terrible and they don't appear to have updated it at all. I'm docking a full star from the rating for this reason. As a matter of principal, I typically leave off a star before I can assess how long something will last, because in most cases that's a huge part of any purchase I make. These are my reasons for the 3-star rating.

As far as the helmet itself goes, it seems okay while it's still new. The chin straps are strong and the head protection seems comparable to other helmets I've bought in the past.

I almost didn't get this because the page describes it as being for toddlers, kids, and teens, all on the same page. There are 2 sizes available measured in centimeters (which I assume is head circumference), and I'm more familiar with inches thanks to my Imperial upbringing. But because the info on the page is all over the place, I didn't feel confident knowing which description to believe.

I ordered this for my 4yo grandson for when he comes over and rides his new bike. He's at that in-between age, between toddler and kid, so I crossed my fingers and ordered the larger of the two available sizes. I figured if it was too big, he would grow into it eventually, and in the meantime I have a bunch of other grandkids ages 2-16yrs who might fit into it.

If it weren't for all my other grandkids of various head sizes, I would not have ordered this at all and instead would have bought a helmet at a store or ordered one with clearer info on the page.

Hopefully they will update and clear up all the issues with the page very soon, because I can't really recommend this the way it is. Even though the helmet itself seems okay while new, I feel like I'm lucky that I don't have to return it for a different size, but that may not be your experience if you order it.

If they have fixed the page in the time since I wrote this review so there is no confusion left at all, consider this a 4-star rating. If not, then you may want to shop elsewhere so you can be sure about protecting your kid's precious noggin with the correct size helmet.

If the helmet proves to have problems, falls apart, or has any other issue while it's being used, I will absolutely come back to update my review. I'll also correct the rating if I'm able to learn that they've corrected all the page issues. At this point, however, it's 3 stars from me!

Perfect size and great color!

I purchased the toddler size in matte navy for my grandson and I couldn't be more pleased! He's a year and a half and has started to jump on his sister's scooter for a ride so I knew it was time for a helmet. This Retrospec helmet is perfect for him! His head is a bit larger than most toddlers his age so I was wary about ordering the toddler size based upon other reviews. It fits him so well! I received the all important approval from my daughter and son in law (who was a professional BMX bike racer at one point) so that sealed the deal for me! The fact that it passes all the safety requirements for a child's helmet was all I needed to know! Additionally, although not nearly as important as fit and safety, the matte navy is a great color and looks exactly like the ad!
