5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Gameplay and Great Graphics

The game is is beautiful and you're rewarded for exploring the world. The characters aren't as strong as other bioware games but they're still endearing and for the most part interesting. The combat system is fun and challenging. The dialogue could have been done a little better but I found that I couldn't put the game down because I was so curious as what there was to do next and meeting the characters.

It's Dragon Age. It looks great, the writing is solid, and we get to visit new regions outside of Orlais & Ferelden. The most fun I've had with a game since Untitled Goose Game. Get your RPG on in style with the most ridiculous crew imaginable. We've got a cold as ice Sherlock Holmes-like, Dr. Orpheus and his skeleton man servant, Elven Velma, and a whole host of other knuckleheads sure to keep the laughs coming while providing solid support in combat situations. What more do you want? Buy this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don’t be fooled!

I’m going to front load this review like a lot of other people are doing. I’m 46, and I’ve been a huge Dragon Age fan since Dragon Age: Origins. I’ve beaten every game and have unlocked every achievement. All of that to say:

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is my second favorite title in the franchise. Don’t be fooled by the manufactured hate for this game. People want to be YouTube game reviewers, and are giving this game a poor write up or poor review for clicks. No other reason.

Content creators are ruining this game for so many people. Try it for yourself! The factions are fun, the story has been enjoyable, and most of the companions are fun to use. There are some fun guest appearances too. Tons of lore, and a lot of your favorite skills and spells.

My personal ranking would be Origins, Veilguard, Inquisition, and DA2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall, excellent and very fun!

I've loved Dragon Age for years, ever since Origins, so I was worried about Veilguard when I saw the trailers. I'm very, VERY glad to say I was pleasantly surprised! I put about 150 hours into my first run and I had a blast! The combat is very fun (at least as a magic user), the quests are interesting, a lot of really old questions get answered in interesting ways, and I didn't personally encounter any major bugs. The only thing I did find was that some of the cosmetic upgrades for mage staves would glitch, and there would be this blue glow that would hover over the shoulder in cutscenes, but it was fixed quite easily just by reloading.

The one thing missing now is a Golden Nug type update where you can at least import collectables, like Lighthouse decorations, and armors/appearances that are faction exclusives you can't unlock in every playthrough. Hopefully they add that sometime soon, but I won't hold my breath.

TL;DR While it wasn't everything I WANTED or hoped for, it was still a great game. It made me cry, got me excited, kept me hooked, and I loved it. The explorable locations were beautiful and the companions were lovely! No game-breaking bugs and fun combat with beautiful graphics. Even the character graphics grew on me. :)

*Edit: Rogues are also VERY fun to play! I prefer it over mages now, actually. The combat is fast and looks way cooler than it did in Inquisition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved the Game

At first I was wary about YouTube and social media reviews constantly hating on the game and commenters joining in on the universal hatred when I doubt they've even played the game. I took the plunge and gave this game a go. Granted I've played every Dragon Age and read the novels so I'm not new to the world of Thedas. I enjoyed the storyline for what it was and I'm on a second playthrough, though I wished they gave side characters more background stories and side quests, character creation was immersive as well. I felt the game didn't force their "agenda" like so many haters claimed it did. There were so many people that hated Horizon and The Last of Us 2 which I doubt they even played the game (or couldn't think for themselves and joined the hate train), that I almost didn't buy those games because of that, but I'm glad I did and took the plunge. Overall, if you can think for yourself, have an open mind and ignore what everyone thinks, you might enjoy this game. I surely did.

Not bad, but not even close to being as good as Inquisition.

Haven't fully beaten it yet but as someone who was on the fence - absolutely love it. Beautiful game. Don't let the goofy darkspawn deter you. Honestly they balance out the horror aspects in the rest of the game. Do recommend!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed - UPDATE do NOT buy
Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2024
I have been following this franchise from the first game, read the books and was very excited for this game. Apart from the NUMEROUS bugs/glitches the story line is weak and underdeveloped. Could have been a great next installment, instead it's a mediocre game I suggest waiting for the discount bin to play if you are on the fence.

    UPDATE
Patch was installed while PS5 was in rest mode. My game is now in Russian. While there are apps available to take pictures of each screen and translate so I can fix this, games shouldn't create extra work, they're a break.
