Good controller, did not work alongside Google Keyboard

UPDATE: problem goes away when i switch from GBoard (Google's Keyboard app) to Samsung's or another 3rd party keyboard. Controller is super responsive and feels great to use! Would highly recommend this controller now.

[Makes my Galaxy S22 Unusable] i really wanted to like this controller, but it's impossible to use on my phone. the moment it connects, the system UI lags and hangs and crashes. it also prevents the keyboard from opening as long as it is connected. it doesnt seem the software can be updated, and it can't be customized with the ultimate software. the build quality is really, really good though. if I can get a new revision, I would in a heartbeat.

to note: no issues on my brother's Galaxy S24 ultra, so mileage may vary. buyer beware.

If You're into gaming and have the latest iPhone or like in my case - have an Android Phone with the latest Snapdragon Processor, You should definitely pick this up ASAP! From Emulators to Remote Play with the latest console systems, this controller works perfect with em' all! I cannot stress the comfort. If you've used an Xbox Controller you'll feel right at home. The digital pad works well with 2D Retro And Fighting Games while the Analog Sticks are accurate, feel console quality and since they're Hall Effect Sticks, You're guaranteed to keep this controller for a very long time without ever having to worry about 'Control Drift'.

All this at a great price. Other brands offer less quality controllers and are priced at nearly double. 8BitDo has released a Gem! Definitely keeping my eye on this company!

1. Android only.
2. Didnt have any trouble pairing,
3. Buttons work well but would take some figuring with where each button goes with each game.
4. Feels like slick plastic. As in if your hands are as dry as mine, there is zero texture to help you hold on.
5. Not as good as others, would recommend the GameSir G8+ even though it costs more.

8Bitdo has truely outdone themselves this time with this controller. This controller has not just hall-effect joysticks, but those joysticks have metal so that there is no grinding against the edge of the joystick's area.

Much more important however is the D-pad, which is extraordinary. It has a tactile bump when pressed similar to what would be on a Playstation Vita, Gameboy advance SP, or 8Bitdo's own lite controller (the lite "1" to be specific). These kinds of clicky buttons are also on the L and R bumpers. The face buttons are rubber domes similar to basically any other controller, which is still good.
Also the triggers are great, they have very short travel, so they are both analog for driving games, but also not annoying to press over and over like some other triggers.
Syncing up has been fine, once you have done it you shouldn't have to do it again.

Now for something that they didn't mention, it does in fact work on a computer via the USB C port, it comes up as just a generic controller. To put it simply, it worked with steam input, if that's useful to you.
I didn't try going in with any software to do virtual mapping, and rebinding controls to the back buttons is easy.

I think it is a bit of a shame that they didn't make it switch compatible, since it actually can fit a switch in it without any problems. If it just synced to it and was wireless still I wouldn't have minded.

Overall this is one of the best controllers that I've ever used, I hope they use the buttons in this for a Micro2 at some point.

Not what I expected

Let's first talk about the comfort level. It is incredibly comfortable to hold, the button placement is spot on and the buttons and control pads feel phenomenal.

That's about it. The controller made my phone freeze and reset often (S21 Ultra) as well as pairing it to my ipad caused it to not function correctly. There was a massive lag time between movements and then it would get stuck going left or down. I have promptly returned this item. I gave it two stars based on the comfort level. The overall function was lacking. I have gone ahead and ordered a Backbone Gen2 USB C......which I probably should have done from the get go.

My phone is a Galaxy S23, and this controller connects and works great with it. Buttons and sticks all feel good. The shoulder buttons are clicky whereas the trigger buttons feel like a ps5 controller's, no click. The shape of the controller feels great in the hand and just feels like a regular console controller.

The buttons on the back are easy to access and press and the manual provides you with methods to remap those buttons without any software. This part is crucial because currently (12/10/24), 8bitDo's android app doesn't recognize this controller and the PC software that 8bitdo's website directs you to is incomplete (8bitDo Ultimate Software V2), only offering firmware updates as of the time of typing, and I'm not quite sure if it's actually checking for firmware updates properly, yet. I did try to use V1 software, but it wasn't recognized.

A bit nitpicky, but for the controller to be recognized in the PC software V2, 8bitdo's FAQ tells you to have the controller off and press and hold LB+RB when you plug it in so it can be recognized. It's strange that I can't just plug it in, but I'm guessing that's just the "perks" of early adoption.
