5.0 out of 5 stars NOTE: Update Firmware to the latest! (updated review from one star)

I had bought a used one and lucked out on one that is in pretty good condition. It was dirty and needed cleaning.
The cord is great in length. Very comfortable to hold in hand and possibly one of my favorite designs, buttons and triggers are my favorite in feel. The joysticks are excellent, I prefer these types over the xbox design. I'm seeing a lot of controllers with extra buttons on the back and they work good. They blend well with the ergonomics to where you don't accidentally press them during intense situations in game. The D-pad is awesome and i really like the feel of it. There is a sense of weight and is not cheap feeling.

The Problems: Something was way off with the controller, so i did a re calibration to find out the deadzone needed reset. It was sitting to the far upper left corner and not center. All of the other buttons worked fine except the XBOX logo button and the led above is not working. I dont know if that is the case for pc only, I am ok with not needing access to the xbox game bar. Ok! now in testing the controller with some games, i had luck with Xeno Crisis, and Moonrider. Had major issues with Resident evil 7 and Borderlands. This was very telling that i was going to have issues with most 3D games but 2D was not going to be an issue
The joysticks were super messed up whenever i was moving my character, i could not look around. When i would look around i then could not move my character! No wonder this got sent back. I just about went nuts because i could not fix the issue and calibration did enough. It states that all of the buttons and joysticks were responding to my input although there was confusion. I was ready to repackage and send back

UPDATE: Make sure to go to the 8bitdo website first thing for all of there controllers before using them if there are any firmware or app updates!
I fixed this review from a 2 star (Amazing Ergonomics/Terrible function) to 5. I am not docking any stars after updating the firmware from 1.20 to 1.60. That fixed a lot of issues with the vibration function and completely reset the controller. Everything works and is functional. I played Resident Evil 7 and Borderlands again, all joysticks work with no issues now. The only minor problem now is I dont get a notification if its connected or not, once plugged in its already recognized so whatever.

Buy new instead of used unless its been Refurbished. Update the Firmware. Other then that i Recommend this controller!

This is becoming one of my favorite controllers to use on the PC. May eventually go back to wireless

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality gamepad that works in Linux

There are a couple different open source solutions out there for getting XBOX One (and compatible) gamepads working but none worked for me till I found "XONE" through a Reddit thread. I'm not sure if Amazon will allow links so just do a web search for "medusalix xone ubuntu" and it should be the first github link. If you're running Linux I'll assume you can follow the instructions on the page listed in the README.md file. I'm not some kind of Linux super pro grizzled beard admin, just a tinkerer, system builder, gamer. Haptic feedback works with this driver too! Full functionality with Steam games anyway with native XBOX controller support. BTW this "XONE" driver also works with the wireless XBOX One controller+dongle.

    About the pad:

Seems solidly built. Cable also seems sturdy and should last many years of casual use.

Force Feedback motors are nice and strong. Not sure how 8BitDo tuned them but they feel more satisfying than the ones in my older XBOXOne wireless controller. It's not a strength thing, more like. I dunno, just feels better.

Analog sticks feel about the same to me, as well as the buttons, just the right amount of pressure and a satisfying motion when depressed. Really well tuned & really I feel like all the face and shoulder buttons feel the same (As a stock XBOX One Controller) but with 2 notable exceptions. 1. It has buttons on the underside that I have yet to use, but have very satisfying resistance and click, but even more notable is the analog triggers. The travel, smoothness and spring loading is just soooooooooooo nice. Waaaaaaaaaay better than the analog triggers on my XBOXOne wireless controller IMO.

As for ergonomics, both the wireless controller and this one feel really nice, but I have to say that I prefer the 8BitDo Ultimate overall. It has a slightly thicker looking profile top to bottom, and the hand grips just feel better in my hands, slightly narrower I think. I'm a little over 6' feet (182 cm) tall with average "paws" to match. Oh the controller is roughly identical in size to a stock XBOX controller. The model 8BitDo used has small hands.

All in all I think this is one of the best alternatives to a "classic" XBOX One controller that exist. Can I get 10 years out of this with casual use like I did with my original XBOX 360 USB controller? I don't know, maybe. Decent price, amazing force feedback and ergonomics, no batteries ever, oh and completely plug & play with Windows 10 and 11 of course as well.

    Hope this review was helpful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good controller and customer service

It’s a fine controller with premium features like the back buttons and xbox support. My main complaint is that the controller is not very ergonomic and feels narrow. I recommend buying the hall effect stick versions instead of alps sticks.

I had joystick drift and contacted support. They sent me links to firmware updates that fixed the drift for me. Good customer service in my case

5.0 out of 5 stars Gamer controller.

Huge gamer here. Usually 6 plus hours a night so we decided to switch up from xbox controllers due to the years and years of stick drift. So we decided to change. So far so good. The shape is different from the traditional xbox controller but got used to it quick and Love it. It's super fast seems like almost no latency since it is corded. Definitely will be purchasing more and great price for sure.
