5.0 out of 5 stars Best controller ever

There's not a lot to say, these have been around for a while, and most people know about them, but I shoulda gotten one MUCH sooner because this is by far my favorite controller.

I love the retro aesthetic and the fact that it's not some big heavy thing(not that other controllers are heavy themselves, but by comparison, at least the current xbox one is). And it's incredibly comfortable.

And best of all it has hall effect sticks, which are supposed to be pretty much drift-proof, and it only costs $40.

The only thing I can say that could be even remotely considered a complaint is the fact that you can't wake up a Nintendo Switch with it. It works on the console, but you have to boot it up and go into the "change grip order" thing every time you wanna use it. It's also a tiny bit disappointing that these used to come in color schemes/layouts that were almost exact clones of the controllers that obviously inspired them, and they no longer make those, for what are likely obvious reasons, but it's a shame...

It also works for PC and Android.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect first controller, works great on my MacBook Air M2
Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2024
I'm a F 66-year old lifelong gamer . Was never interested in FPS games, so never gave a thought to using a controller. However, I recently started playing Baldur's Gate 3 on my MacBook Air (M2) and was finding using the keyboard/mouse so clunky. Then I saw a video about using a controller with that game on macOS. Well! I am a total convert now...it is SO much easier to play BG3 with a controller once you become familiar with its functions and can use them more or less automatically. For me, a couple of hours' playtime got me to that point. I'm sure I will enjoy using it with other games that have good controller support. I got the gray version of this controller and love its small, slim profile. It fits my small hands perfectly and is comfortable to hold and use for hours at a time. It connected flawlessly with my MacBook Air, both via a USB-C port and via Bluetooth. I like having the option of playing either wired or wirelessly and not having to fuss with batteries. So happy with this purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality build, built to last.
Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2024
I like the clicky buttons, I like the instant connectivity and ease of use. I like the Hall Effect joysticks (even though I did not know these had them.) Everythign is responsive, even when not plugged in. Gamepad charges fast, and I like the streamlined look. I know alot of folks prefer the pistol-grip controllers, but I'm oldschool. I don't require programmed buttons or anything fancy, just a solid performer that connects and... to disingenuously steal a phrase... it just works.

Looking into buying a controller for Android/PC/SteamDeck to supplant this one, considering that Steam no longer sells or supports the Steam controller.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and functional—while they last, at least

I bought two of these in different colors and was pleasantly surprised to find that the build quality seemed very nice, given that these are third-party controllers. The color schemes are pleasant and add a retro touch; the ones I got recall the colors of the North American SNES controller and the Game Boy. The shape and layout is essentially that of an SNES controller, but with analog sticks and an extra pair of shoulder buttons.

Connectivity is straightforward. Four interface modes (Mac, XInput, DInput, and Nintendo Switch) are available, so whatever it is you're trying to connect to, odds are it will recognize these controllers in one of the four modes. While the instructions don't mention it, you can connect these controllers to iOS devices with a few extra steps. After registering them in Switch Control, they'll appear in the list of Bluetooth devices just like other controllers, and they work as expected in games with controller support.

The buttons all feel pretty decent. The shoulder buttons are perhaps a little on the small side, but you get used to them quickly. I didn't expect the sticks to be anything special, but they feel smooth and responsive. These aren't merely cheap junk with premium branding. They cost more than the average third-party controller on Amazon because they are, in fact, better.

After using both of the controllers evenly for about a year (i.e., one at a time, so each one got about half a year's worth of effective use), the rubber grip on one of the analog sticks developed a tear and began coming off of the stick. I've retired the controller that developed this issue, as the damaged grip digs into my thumb if I try to use it. The other controller has yet to show any signs of the issue, for what that's worth. If you're shopping for a go-to everyday controller that will see lots of use, consider getting a backup.
