5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect controller

I have several 8BitDo products and somehow they keep improving on what I already thought was a perfect controller. The form factor is similar to that of SNES controllers having a few extra buttons and features. It has two joysticks, a turbo button and home button, L2/R2, L3/R3 (pressing into the joysticks), a pairing button, and a usb-c charging port. Additionally, this has rumble capability built into it, which makes a much more immersive and authentic experience. Oh, and this has gyro! Even though I don't have a game at the moment to test gyro, it is mind blowing what they packed into this thing.

As far as operation, this controller works great. I'm not a "speed runner", but I can do a few tight controls in certain games and I didn't find any noticeable input lag and inputs registered as expected. Using an online controller test tool, everything works as expected too. I was able to even test out that the rumble worked in games too. The controller feels very comfortable to play and smooth operation.

What is a nice update upon previous models is that they include some indication printed on the controller of how to pair it with different platforms, so there's almost no need to look at an instruction manual after unboxing this. As far as looks, it has a super cool frosted shell and some neat printed designs/text on it. This takes me back a little when game console manufacturers produced products that had a lot of charm and character and weren't afraid to have different designs like translucent cases. I think that charm adds to the enjoyability of a controller like this.

Now I titled this "A" perfect controller instead of "The" perfect controller, because there truly is not one controller that is perfect for all games. I think this IS a perfect controller for almost all retro game titles. Especially, a certain SNES title which required tight controls in order to hold run, then jump and fire occasionally at a single time in which I needed to "claw" grip the controller. Modern xbox style controllers are terrible for that type of ergonomic. I even tested this out on a modern game with dual-axis camera controls and it functioned great as expected. However, even though this controller can play most modern games including FPS titles, the form factor for a controller like this is not as comfortable as the xbox style controls. For its intended form factor and purpose, though, I think it is a perfect controller, I don't know what else they could do to improve upon it at a reasonable price.

Honestly, this is such a great controller. This is the kind of controller that you could easily replace dozens of other controllers for. The look is really cool, and the feel is great. The fact that they included both rumble and gyro into this thing is really impressive. This did an excellent job with this, highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best controllers in a unique colorway

I've been wanting an 8-bitdo controller controller for a while, eyeing that green clear case but I wish the buttons had color. In comes this GENKI crossover SN30 Pro. I love the clear electronics style from the 90s, the colors on the buttons is great, it just feels very nostalgic for me.

The controller itself is hands down one of the best controllers you can get in this form factor. I've been playing SNES games on Switch Online since I got the thing, it just feels right! I don't think it's 1:1 on the original SNES controller but it's so close my hands couldn't tell the difference - excluding the obvious sticks and extra buttons.

The sticks are a big deal here. Hall effect sticks should last a LOT longer than standard sticks that require contacts that always eventually wear down. They also feel great though, perfect resistance and I didn't notice any dead zone or bounce when snapping back to center. D-pad is just awesome. PERFECT for fighters and platformers. Buttons are all really nice to press, not too much travel and not to easy to trigger. Shoulder buttons are a little small but easy to use. Some people will probably be disappointed that the triggers are not analog, racers might suffer, but in such a small body I can see why this wasn't a priority for 8-bitdo. Battery life is great, don't even know how many hours I've used it but I've only had to charge once.

I just can't say enough good things about this controller. Easily connects to Switch, PC, and my Android phone. Small enough to toss it in a bag and take it to work, tough enough to not worry about it in said bag. I think I'll buy a couple more so everyone in the family has a full controller for Mario Kart and Smash Bros nights.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best controller for retro games in a unique colorway.

This review is for a GENKI x 8BitDo PocketPro. This controller is a special edition of the popular SN30 Pro Bluetooth controller with the latest upgrades, such as hall effect sticks and a unique Genki colorway. The controller is nearly universally compatible across PCs, Android, Mac, and iOS. The main exceptions are Xbox and Playstation consoles, but that's to be expected.

The PocketPro's shape is reminiscent of the SNES controller, and I prefer it for retro games and modern side-scrollers and platformers. The buttons and D-pad are relatively firm and utilize a membrane layer, just like the original NES, SNES, Genesis, and PS1 controllers. Combined with relatively long key travel, it gives the PocketPro an authentic feel. With the addition of analog sticks, rumble, shoulder buttons, and digital triggers, Steam recognizes the PocketPro as an Xbox controller. While it has all the controls for 3D games, I have larger hands and generally prefer full-sized controllers for titles requiring dual analog sticks.

I've been having a blast using this controller during my playthrough of Nine Sols. At $50 at the time of review, this controller is relatively expensive, but it's my preferred way of playing certain styles of games.

    Notes:
    1) I appreciate how the different modes are printed directly on the controller as a quick reference for how to pair it with various platforms.
    2) The controller features USB-C and works in wired and Bluetooth modes.
    3) If you want the fastest, most responsive controllers, consider checking out other products with microswitches instead of a membrane layer.
    4) In case I wasn't explicitly clear, the PocketPro does not have analog triggers. They behave as buttons.
