5.0 out of 5 stars WIRELESS on Xbox S/X is possible - READ
Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2024
This product was just released, and I imagine that some people will have this question so I wanted to post it here. THIS CONTROLLER WORKS WIRELESSLY ON Series S/X by adding one inexpensive adapter. Read on!

I have XSX and 8bitdo says only WIRED play is possible on this system. Out of the box, this is true. Wired works phenomenally well, and the 8bitdo Xbox app allows for 3 profiles for button mapping, etc. Buttons, hall triggers and hall sticks all feel great and are well made.

For WIRELESS play, use the Mayflash Magic-X adapter (I believe consensus was that Brook Wingman XB2 adapter was preferred, but due to some Microsoft shenanigans it only works on retro Xbox consoles now) - Wingman XB3 is said to be released Summer 2024 and is rumored to work with the newer consoles.

WIRELESS PAIRING INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Turn on Xbox, plug Mayflash into any USB port, it'll begin flashing blue. Don't need to do anything else with the Mayflash. It detects that it's Xbox and the blue light flashes.
2. Plug in the small rectangular 8bitdo 2.4g USB adapter included with this controller (hidden on bottom of charging stand) into the female side of the Mayflash, it will begin blinking on the front.
3. On the back of controller, switch the 3-way toggle to 2.4g setting. Then press the Xbox button, the ring lights up.
4. Hold the pairing button on the top of controller until the Xbox button flashes rapidly.
5. After a few seconds, the Xbox button light will stay solid and you will see that the light on the 8bitdo adapter is solid now too.
6. Once connected, it works exactly like the official Xbox controller. And it stays paired with the adapter so whenever system is powered on just press the Xbox button, it vibrates to confirm.

DOWNSIDES:
1. With wireless play, the 8bitdo app does not work (prompts you to plug in the controller), so no button mapping nor usage of the P1 and P2 paddles on back. Even if you do button mapping when wired, it does not stay for wireless. If you're in the majority of users, this won't matter much.
2. The wireless controller can turn off the system, but cannot turn it on. Mayflash has no power when console is off. I did try a powered USB hub and interestingly when the Mayflash port is switched to on, it wakes the system and the controller connects. Otherwise power button or another controller, and then press the Xbox button on 8bitdo controller and it connects, vibrates to confirm.

TIPS:
1. If you're trying to pair and it's not working and the light on controller will not stop flashing, just hold the Xbox button until light goes out and try again.
2. The Bluetooth option on the controller does not work with the Xbox, even with the Mayflash (which has Bluetooth).
3. The Mayflash adapter will continue to blink blue, don't worry about it. Use rear USB if it's distracting.

Hope this helps some of you on the fence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent update to an already excellent controller
Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2024
I already had three of the 8bitdo Ultimate 2.4Ghz controllers. This is the update to that controller, and it is excellent. To compare the two controllers, this 8BitDo Ultimate 3-mode controller has a much better D-Pad and shoulder buttons, and it has a headphone jack. It also has rumble motors in the triggers similar to the Xbox One and Xbox Series controllers. I use it for PC, and the original 2.4Ghz showed up as an Xbox 360 controller. This 3-mode controller shows up as an Xbox One controller. This is really just beneficial if you want to have the correct glyphs in your games.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Controller Just Not For Me
Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2024
Let me start out by saying this is an amazing controller for the price, for most people. Unfortunately, I am not one of those people. The grips on this controller do not "flare" out like they do on the regular Xbox controller, they simple come straight down, and as such, this controller is slightly smaller. Only by a very small amount. But as someone with larger hands it ended up being a big enough difference. My hands got cramped after using this controller for only a short time, and I found myself constantly accidently pressing the paddle buttons on the back of the controller just from how my (larger) hands rested while playing. Other than the size, everything else felt great. The hall effect triggers and joy sticks feel amazing, and the included charging cradle is great. I had no issues with anything other than the size, and I am disappointed that I had to return it. For the right person, this controller is an amazing device at this price point, but due to the smaller size I am docking a star since it might limit who can use this controller comfortably.

2.0 out of 5 stars Almost great, but with a lot of problems.
Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2024
My first impression of this controller was really good. The sticks feel great, the abxy buttons feel pretty much identical to an xbox controller, it's comfortable though not as good for big hands as an xbox controller, it connects to my pc immediately after picking it up off the dock, seemed like a good replacement for my 8 year old xbox elite controller that's finally wearing out.
As I used it I started to notice a lot of small things that made the controller feel a little worse, but were ultimately not a big deal. Despite being branded with xbox, it can't be used wirelessly with an xbox. I'm on PC though, so not a big deal for me. The D pad is very mushy and doesn't feel good at all. The rumble motors are strong enough to do their job, but there is a noticeable difference in the feel between the left and right motors for both the palm and trigger rumble. Not a problem, but it makes the controller feel cheaper. Then the software told me the controller had an update available. The update stopped at 100% and wasn't finished even after leaving it overnight. I had to force close the software to be able to use the controller again. The controller works fine without the update, but not being able to update it feels bad. The paddle buttons on the back are not good. For them to be at all clicky you have to press them down toward the bottom of the controller. Pulling them in towards your palm in a way that feels natural gives almost no feedback and the force you have to apply varies wildly depending on the exact angle you press the button. The buttons are usable, but don't feel good to use.
Now after using the controller for a few weeks, some of the buttons have started missing inputs. Maybe 1 in 50 times the rb button doesn't register. The d pad will often ignore inputs or input multiple times with one button press. For example pressing d pad right 3 times to move 3 spaces in a menu will either move 3 spaces like it should, move 2 spaces, move 4 spaces, or move 2 spaces then after a delay move another 2 or 3 spaces.
I have gone back to using my 8 year old xbox elite controller with messed up abxy buttons, stick drift, and peeling rubber since that is a more enjoyable experience. I won't by buying an 8bitdo controller again.
