5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing game, tons of cool stuff to do
Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2022
I've read reviews and complaints about performance and lag issues. I personally haven't had any issues with that (FYI, I'm running the game on a switch that mostly plays physical games; I am also using the physical version of Pokemon... people's performance issues may be due to old / heavily used SSD cards). The issues that I have had, and a lot that I see online, are minor cosmetic issues. For me, this is weird lighting here and there, but definitely not something that happens a lot or that bothers me a ton.

Overall, the game is a big step forward for the Pokemon series. There's a ton of content, there are cool, new mechanics to try out, and the game looks pretty good. It really feels like an open-world game, contrary to its Arceus Legends. I'm personally having a blast. If you are thinking about getting this game and are holding back because of performance / lag issues, just get the game. Buy the physical version if you are concerned and return it if you're disappointed. I'm definitely not disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pokémon Violet: A Vibrant Evolution of Adventure!

Pokémon Violet for the Nintendo Switch is a thrilling addition to the beloved Pokémon franchise, offering a fresh and immersive journey that will captivate fans old and new alike. As an avid Pokémon enthusiast, I couldn't wait to dive into the vibrant world of Pokémon Violet, and it did not disappoint.
First and foremost, let's talk about the visuals. The game boasts stunning graphics that bring the Pokémon universe to life like never before. From the lush forests of Viridian City to the bustling streets of Saffron City, each location is rendered with breathtaking detail, making every step of your journey a visual feast for the eyes.
But it's not just about looks—Pokémon Violet delivers on gameplay too. The introduction of dynamic weather systems and day-night cycles adds a new layer of realism to the Pokémon world, creating a dynamic and ever-changing environment to explore. Whether you're battling trainers under the blazing sun or searching for elusive Pokémon under the stars, there's always something new and exciting to discover.
One of the standout features of Pokémon Violet is the expanded Pokédex, which introduces a host of new Pokémon to catch and train. From adorable new starters to powerful legendary creatures, there's a Pokémon for every trainer to fall in love with. And with the addition of new battle mechanics and move sets, battles are more intense and strategic than ever before.
But perhaps the most exciting aspect of Pokémon Violet is the new region itself. Set in the lush and vibrant region of Violea, this picturesque locale is teeming with new Pokémon, characters, and mysteries to uncover. Whether you're exploring ancient ruins, uncovering hidden secrets, or challenging the formidable Gym Leaders, there's never a dull moment in Violea.
Overall, Pokémon Violet is a must-have for any Pokémon fan. With its stunning visuals, engaging gameplay, and richly detailed world, it's a true evolution of the Pokémon experience. So grab your Poké Balls and get ready for an adventure like no other—Violea awaits!

5.0 out of 5 stars An odd duck

It's hard to know whether I can "recommend" this game not knowing you. You're definitely signing up for a kinda rough, kinda framey Switch game. But... It's also the most fun I've had playing Pokemon in ages? I know 9 people across a couple friend groups that are all playing it and loving it. Just wrapping up the story and I gosh darn love the thing. Planning on playing until I complete the 'dex.

If you're on the fence, look up some gameplay on YouTube. Not a glitch compilation, just gameplay, preferably with no commentary, and skip around a bit. See if it's speaking to you. I think it's wonderful. I think the next entry will probably be better on a technical level. There are clear growing pains both from Game Freak as they move towards a different style of game and from a console on the very last of it's long under-powered legs. That said, I hope you get it. I hope you love it! It's a pretty special game!
