I'm about halfway through the game, so I can't do a "full review" but from what I've played so far, it's safe for me to say that Vanillaware has done it again! The art and music of this game captured me immediately and it's been hours and hours of pure gaming bliss since! The story is fairly simple so far but there are a couple of mysteries and hooks that are intriguing enough to push me forward. The main story element for me is all of the individual characters that you meet and can develop relations with. Each character, and I think I've read that there are 60+ recruitable characters, has their own backstory and motivations for joining Alain on his quest. The combat is fun, strategic, and there are tons of character classes and combinations to experiment with. But breaking that down even further, every character has multiple pieces of gear and skills that can be adjusted and fine tuned for the given battle or situation. It really is just a fun game to play! I'm a lifelong Final Fantasy Fan but love any RPG or Strategy game. If You're into RPG's, Strategy Games, or just want to indulge in some amazing art and music, you've gotta play this game! I couldn't recommend it enough!

Plays like a mix of fire emblem and tactics ogre. Beautiful art, especially if you have played other Vanillaware games and enjoy the style. Good story with lots of in depth character interactions that you can focus on and dig into if that's your jam but also completely avoidable if you just want to play the game. Also the online coliseum is fun if you want to pit your tactics against the online leaderboard. Feels like a very complete, very enjoyable game.

I was curious about this game because I’ve been a big fan of the vanillaware stuff for years now. I started with the demo on PSN and when I booted the game up, I honestly almost immediately didn’t like it. It was not at all what I was used to or expected in an RPG.
I’ve played other tactics stile games before like the disgaea series and final fantasy tactics, but this is almost closer to an RTS game sans resource management.
But it is incredibly fun and addictive! I sank five hours into the demo easily and without even noticing it. It really draws you in with a constant feed of new abilities and classes. It became very obvious that i was enjoying the game and I went from an absolute “not worth it” to “take my money” in a matter of hours.
And to top it all off, maybe the most generous thing the developer did was to allow for your demo save info to carry over to the full game. It was great to know I wouldn’t have to restart my play through just to keep my momentum going.
This won’t be for everyone, but AT LEAST play the demo and if you have fun with it, support a company that is making interesting new IPs

Plain and simple, if you want more games like this you have to send the message with your wallet. As this industry becomes more and more corporate and everything gets weighed out in a cost/benefit analysis, niche genres like Strategy JRPGs get left behind by big companies. Want to stop that? Pony up! This game is worth your money one way or another if the genre interests you whatsoever. Distinctive Vanillaware art never gets old for me.

Stereotypical "I never leave reviews, but.." disclaimer, this game is a masterpiece. If you have any interest in strategy RPGs, engaging combat, fiddling with gear, skills, item usage and unit composition to improve your odds of success then look no further. It's amazing.

This game is gorgeous, but that almost goes without saying, given who developed it. The gameplay of Vanillaware games, however, can be somewhat hit or miss. This is one of the hits. The strategic gameplay is super fun and easy. It has tons of great quality of life features, but still feels extremely... video game-y, if you know what I mean.

The writing is decent, very similar to Fire Emblem games, but the depth of the RPG systems more than makes up for that.

I'd say the main hook for this game is the excellent 2d graphics and of course these days we don't see 2d much. As far as gameplay it's well done, it may seem confusing at first but if you stick with it you'll get it. Pretty basic but good story. I'd say it's worth playing for sure

The soundtrack is great, and the art style is beautiful. It's simple enough for new players to pick up and play, but the game mechanics have plenty of depth for experienced players as well. Buy it.
