5.0 out of 5 stars A great refresh to a masterpiece of gaming

I’m only on ME2 but most of the changes were made to ME1 anyways so preview it. The graphics updates to ME1 alone make this worth it. The combat mechanics and combat menu updates to be closer to ME2 we’re done well. Having everything including DLC all included under one umbrella make this a great buy.

I had a hard time getting the redeem code to work but the amazon chat rep supervisor bent over backward to be helpful. So thanks again for that. EA's chat rep was disappointing, I would suggest buying the redeem code directly from EA that way they can't tell you the code is invalid and get a new one from Amazon, and instead will have to fix the problem. If EA's redeem code page won't load ask the chat rep to load it for you.

It’s the greatest RPG of all time remastered. Just shutup and buy it. If you didn’t play this game back in the day, now is your chance.

5.0 out of 5 stars The return of BioWare's most ambitious trilogy now remastred in 4K

The well-regarded Sci-Fi RPG series of the 7th generation returns again in 2021 as Mass Effect Legendary Edition targeting 4K across all 3 games with most of the DLC included. It's time to revisit Commander Shepard and see how the new changes have panned out.

Mass Effect was one of my 1st games on PC and while mods can bring the visuals to a similar level as the Legendary Edition, BioWare has also made some much needed improvements to the game-play as well.
Combat isn't outright replaced here but more refined with less clunky animations and shooting feeling a lot closer to the sequels as much as the ME1 framework allows. Shepard can sprint during combat, command squad members independently and the cover system feels a lot better to use. The Mako isn't gone but has been altered to allow forward and vertical boosts in order to it more tolerable for exploration.

Mass Effect 2 & 3 haven't been as drastically improved as their game-play has held up a lot more. DLC weapons & upgrades have been integrated both games as additional weapons to buy from merchants or scattered across maps so be sure to check every corner as to not miss anything.

Not everything is perfect for the Legendary Edition, ME1 had textures and game-play changes but the geometry detail wasn't improved so some things like the eyes on human characters still look a little weird. The ME1 DLC pinnacle station wasn't included either, BioWare found that the source code for it was corrupted but this isn't much of a loss as it was just a bare-bones wave-based arena with minimal dialogue.

The 4k textures look fantastic in both ME2 & ME3 but some returning characters in ME3 from ME2 didn't carry over all their texture improvements in a few spots for some reason. There are also a few cut-scenes where characters for a brief moment will just do weird stuff like start glitching over furniture or just disappearing altogether. This could be a problem in ME1 but I noticed it more in the sequels.

ME3 doesn't include its multiplayer mode from the original release which is a bizarre omission, this was and still is a lot of fun with a ton of depth and a good amount of maps to play on. It's enough of a reason to revisit the original ME3 if EA never includes it in the future. BioWare did at least re-balance Galactic Readiness for ME3 to account for this.

Some changes made throughout the trilogy that people are whining about are things like camera angles, the original releases has a few real cringe-worthy camera angles on some of the female characters. These were changed so the cringe is gone which is for the best as the original angles happened at moments that end up detracting from the story.

Another change which sort of has some merit is the lighting with some scenes evoking a different mood because of the engine upgrade to a newer version of Unreal Engine 3. I didn't find this to be the case but YMMV if you care about that sort of thing. If you're curious about all the notable changes, there's a list made by EA to look over with more subtle changes being found by the ME community over time.

If you've never played through or finished the trilogy, the Legendary Edition is about as much as you could wish for outside of a full remake. PC players might find it a slightly harder sell with mods available but for most this will be a great value with at least a 100+ play-through across all 3 games. Despite the controversial ending of ME3, the trilogy is still held up in high regard for good reason.

BioWare created an extremely well realized universe setting the stage for the conflict with the Reapers and allowing a plethora of other stories that could still be told even after the story of Commander Shepard ends. As the divisive receptions of Mass Effect Andromeda and Anthem fades, lets hope that the Mass Effect Legendary Edition reminds EA to let BioWare create what they do best without rush or corporate interference.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money.

I bought this with the hope that EA had got over their issues but, no. I got the code, got the Origin service, got the downloads. The game will not play without Origin service. Well for me it wouldn't play at all. The tittle screen comes on, launcher comes on, the splash slide and music but no game. I reported it three times to Origin not even an email. I updated all my drivers and PC, even bought a Norton Utility to maximize my speed and clean up. When it comes on it also stays on, I have to reboot to get to shut off. This is a great game series, but this is not the way to go about getting it on your PC. I l also checked on their forum for help and this is a common problem. You could re-write some commands and programs like they suggest but do you really want to for a game?

EA games wouldn't let me get to the game, despite a brand new computer. ALL EA is a criminal enterprise. They took my money and didn't give me ANY access to the game. EA is a criminal enterprise.
