4.0 out of 5 stars Really interesting concept, doesn't work for 1st person games
Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2024
This is either in perspective mode, or in joystick mode, not both at the same time. So it's not great for the vast majority of modern games, or first person games. It's best for 2 dimensional games.

You can use this arcade stick in tandem with a mouse, using the mouse to change perspective and other functions that the arcade stick doesn't support. But but doing so basically requires three hands, making it difficult.

Otherwise it's an interesting concept. It kindof emulates the joysticks on an old fashioned arcade cabinet (but of course, no joystick, just buttons).

But if you like vintage gaming on PC (like NES games using a Windows emulator) this is kindof fun.

So I bought the pad on 08/20/24 and after less than a month now I can't use it for certain games and my PC no longer recognizes the controller. I used to be able to plug in the controller and open steam big picture. But now after some use the use-c connector pins are no longer all making contact and my computer no recognizes the pad as a controller. So after only a few weeks I can no longer use the device. Fun for a bit but not very long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight and portable

What can I say? Haute42 knocks it out of the park again. The Hautepad P12 is very lightweight compared to the acrylic counterparts and somehow still feels solid. There are actually features on this pad that I prefer to even my M+ also from Haute42. For starters I usually prefer extra switches, I go for the T16 and M16+ variants because of the extra buttons. However I can play just fine with the default 12 button layout.
What keeps me coming back to this over my S16 (the acrylic cousin to this form factor) is indeed the weight. This does not add heft to my travel bag and along with the large rubber anti sleep pads it doesn't move when gaming. I love the dedicated start and back buttons right on the center of the pad as opposed to several identically sized unlabelled buttons like on the M series. This pad also adds a lock feature which disables the start back and home buttons for tournament play! That's an awesome feature I wish all of the pads had.
The switches are Kailh crystal low profile. They shine light well creating a nice glowing ring around the opaque black button caps. I don't love the feel of the switches so I normally opt for either lofree ghosts modded with a lighter spring. I can't wait to try the Blue wind switches Haute42 just put out. They look similar to ghosts but have a lighter spring which would save me time modding.
If you are tempted to get into the leverless world but don't want to break the bank. I highly recommend this pad if you are on PC. If you are on console you will need to get a dongle such as the magic adapter from mayflash or a brook wingman for ps5. Haute42 also just released a very low profile dongle for ps5. All in, even with the adapter purchases this is by far the least expensive option to get into the leverless world. On top of that it beats out companies like razer in hardware and software quality. The buttons are hot swappable and readily available. The software is browser based and allows customization of all the buttons and it is regularly updated.
If you play fighting games and want leverless. Buy this, get addicted, then buy the bigger ones. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dmagso Leverless 12 Button Review
Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2024
I was interested in the Dmagso Leverless w/ 12 buttons as more compact alternative to my old PS3 Hitbox Arcade Hitbox (shown in pic for comparison), so I'll mostly use that as a reference point in my evaluation of the Dmagso Leverless. It is the same or very similar to the Haute42 p12. I tested it on a wide variety of fighting games, including Street Fighter 6, Guilty Gear Strive, and King of Fighters 14. It's also great for classic games and sidescrollers.

Pros:
First, the controller is extremely small and lightweight, perfect for traveling. It can fit comfortably into a backpack with no problem. The device worked right out of the box when plugged into my PC, and switching between input and SOCD modes is extremely easy. The display on the controller also makes it easy to keep track of which mode you are in, as it displays both the input mode and SOCD method. The low profile switches are very responsive, I had no problem executing any typical fighting game inputs. Sliding for quick 360 and 720 inputs is particularly easy due to the low profile and slightly rounded button edges, so it's an easy recommendation for grappler players. It also has several additional buttons at the top for left/right stick clicks, which are good for setting shortcuts in training mode for recording and playback. The tournament lock is also a nice addition to prevent any accidental pauses. I'm not really someone who cares about the LEDs, but the different lighting modes are cool if that's something you're into, and my 4 year-old son really likes them. As an aside, the small size, close buttons, and relatively cheap price make this good for kids who want to play along.

Cons:
While the small size is convenient, it also makes the controller less comfortable to play on my lap, where I typically play with my Hitbox. I'd recommend playing on top of a desk if possible. The non-slip pads on the back make sure it will stay in place while playing. Also, if you're looking for a quieter controller, this may not be the best choice. The switches are quieter than typical Sanwa buttons, but noticably louder than the silenced Sanwa buttons. The only other issue is that the cord it comes with is pretty short, maybe about 4 ft. I'd recommend getting a longer USB cable for convenience.

Overall, I think it's a great budget leverless, especially if you're thinking about making the switch from controller or stick. Everything works as-advertised right out of the box, and you can change SOCD modes easily to keep it tournament legal for different games.

I was able to put this on my laptop and have a fight pad that was great for travel. Sitting in my hotel room on a business trip I was able to throw down and have a suitable substitute to my main fight pad. The customization was great and overall it feels very sturdy. I t was also plug and play which was awesome!
